Chancellor Finis Valorum
Before a vote of "no confidence" by Senator Amidala, Finis Valorum, a member of the prestigious Valorum family, was the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. His position was filled by Senator Palpatine.

Behind the Scenes
The name Valorum dates back to the earliest drafts of the original Star Wars film. In the first draft, Valorum was a dark, masked prince whose role was quite similar to Vader 's in the final film.
