How can we bring some of the spirit back to this site?

With the disappearance of Y2-D2, this site has lost a certain feel to it. Of course, one way to help would be to find Y2-D2 in real life and talk some sense back into him, but that wouldn't be that easy. Anybody have some other ideas? (does anyone by chance happen to have Y2's email?)

some of us, yourself included, seem to be trying. empress palpatine resurrected POTW, dorme vader put together a site with FAQ's, rev. mandrake has links to news updates, SWA has contests, you, me, phantom dave and ninjamonkey all seem to have our entertainment/advice value, and the RPers seem to be fairly content down there in the basement. admittedly it would be nice to have Y2 back but we seem to be doing adequate on our own. i've noticed a few new faces running around. if those of us that are contributing keep it up we should be able to stay afloat until the higher-up mucketie mucks figure out that we're still here.

holy crap, i went on for a while there.

remember it could be worse.

Hi Ewok- I think we all have something to contribute and I have noticed Site maintenance occuring-someone is still there. It's an Extremely hard job working on sites sometimes and a lot of administrators are working other jobs/sites at the time. While there may be a lot of things going on in Star Wars at the moment and some of the site menus appear to be the same-the main site usually covers such things and all of us are giving each other news and pictures, etc. I'm here mainly to communicate/share with all of you and to learn new things and I have and it's been a mutual lovefest all around :) But I understand that people would also like contests, etc. Rev brought up some really good points about user driven content. Fans have started to drive content and be really proactive. Hang in there- I'm sure we'll hear more from the administrators in the future. May the Force be With you All.

Clean up the site, If it isn't SW related get rid of it. There is way too much stuff that is not SW related. It needs to be kept clean and tidy. Some of the other non SW images are creepy, !@#$y, and not appropriate for this site. Why is there LOTR, Matrix, WWF among some others on a SW site. CLEAN IT UP. this isn't a free for all it's a site devoted to SW.

Also, don't make it so hard to get different status's on the site.

make it fun to be here... It's ok to be strict about the site -- Perfection is what George Lucas expects... Think about it..

I agree that there should be more spirits on this website. Perhaps we could organize a mass suicide? It is awfully lonely being a ghost. I get sick of playing cards wil the same old bunch. Yoda and Ben talk to much and Anakin always cheats. I will whip up a batch of poison blue milk and leave it on the bar at DEFEND YOUR WEBSITE. Drop by and off yourself.

Master Jedi D: 2 things
1. George Lucas would expect creativity over perfection.
2. You have to let a few things slide to provide diversity and attract an even larger crowd since this site is a business for Yahoo. It can't run on good intentions alone.

i emphasize "a few things"

-thanks for listening to more of my ramblings.

This site has as much as spirit as you have in it... Y2D2 MIA shouldn't have any effect on us as a group of fans... This site was created for us to be able to participate as part of the Star Wars world... Learning and sharing with one another... If you are participating and contributing then there shouldn't be any lack of "spirit" if you are just sitting back and "watching TV" then you are truly missing out...

i'll go along with that.

Yeah but there's aboot 50 bajillion other forums out there...ones that work even...the one thing this one had going for it was interactive contests and challenges. Now it's just an unmoderated forum mess. Heck I might upload some @#$% pics just cuz I can....

Mar 2, 2008 11:26 PM | Report Abuse reply

Betcha 5 GSD you won't post any @#$% pics. Especially with really hot alien chicks. And a wookiee.

rev920...

You are sooo wrong. Lets be clear, George Lucas is a perfectionist and a control freak, without these two things George Lucas would be like every other movie mogul that allows others to make the decisions, GL doesn't. Yes he expects a level of creativity, even that is perfect. Think about how many Yoda's he went through just to find the right one. A perfectionist will make and remake their product until they feel that it's perfect... even then it's really not. That's why he make and remakes his products. That is why he only releases his information when it is absolutely perfect. Rambling is exactly what that paragraph was.

If you want diversity then call the site Sci-Fi-Yahoo, not SW Yahoo. You don't see any of the above mentioned items at the OFFICIAL SW website or Hyperspace website. Diversity is fine. I thought the point of calling the site SW Yahoo was to encourage the love of SW, for fans to show all their SW-ness not their Star Trek LOTR, WWF-ness.

The simple part of this is, a little decency would go a long way...

Is this the kind of site you really want to defend...

Well I don't no much about it but I would like to know why a lot of the pictures people have are to do with Halo or even Mario (ugh!), why don't they prove that they are SW fans by having something sw-like?

Mar 3, 2008 8:36 PM | Report Abuse reply

I think it's unfair to compare WOSW with the official Star Wars and Hyperspace sites. Unlike the latter sites, WOSW is not a official part of Lucasfilm that exists merely to promote and advertise SW. Since Yahoo doesn't have the burden of owning SW to begin with, it won't suffer from harmless deviations by WOSW's users who feel like uploading non-SW content. All non-official fansites shouldn't have to focus on just one topic while not covering; places with a vastly limited scope can stagnate and possibly die. Since it's highly unlikely that WOSW's staff will come back anytime soon, we have a right to reasonably diversify the scope of this site if we want it to continue living.

And why should we care if George Lucas prefers perfection over creativity (or vice versa)? Just because he created SW doesn't make him the Boss of all SW-fansites who can dictate and enforce his Holy Standards throughout the entire Internet as he pleases. Even if he had this power, it's obvious that he won't be bothered to use it anytime soon. Otherwise we won't be discussing this little issue, now would we? :P

I'd have to agree with Master Jedi D about the posting of non-STar wars content. I hate it when people post stupid pictures of the new puppy they got yesterday, or their friend's cat, or a tiger, and the like. I also have noticed that there apparently is someone doing work on this site behind the scenes. There was a red background added up at the top which was recently removed. I just think that things have gotten a bit dull around here, and I thought it would be nice to come up with something to sort of bring some enthusiasm to the site.

master jedi d-
considering that Mr. Lucas encourages and praises all the Fan Films out there leads me to believe that he encourages creativity over perfection. and let us not forget he handed the director-al reins over to Irvin Kershner for ESB and Richard Marquand for RotJ indicates that he's willing to relinquish some control to someone else. yes Lucas is a perfectionist when making his movies, but this site is not his movie. it's here for the fans and run by yahoo, not Lucasfilm. and i believe a few non-Star Wars items are still OK as i believe you do too.

I tend to think I am a SW fan. I keep non-related SW pictures in my blog. But my Star Wars pics I upload to my page. I s there something wrong with that? I do agree that there should only be star wars pics uploaded to the WoSW, but I think it is OK to put non-related stuff in my blog.

and please be careful not to be a hyprocrite. One person in this blog has non-related pics uploaded. dun dun dun.....
