I was cleaning out the crap emails (okay, so I don't have a space limit, but spring cleaning makes me feel good), when I stumbled upon Homing Beacn #199, the email that first introduced the World of Star Wars, sent way back 10/25/07:
You've never heard of Y2-D2? Was he an obscure astromech hiding in the Jawa sandcrawler in Episode IV? Or maybe he flew shotgun on a Jedi starfighter in the prequel trilogy? Or was he a supporting character in that one expanded universe novel you let slip through the cracks in your reading list?
Actually, Y2-D2 represents the latest partnership from StarWars.com and Lucasfilm. This time around we're collaborating with Yahoo! to create a site that extends the reach of StarWars.com into the Web 2.0 world as we seek to connect Star Wars fans with a wealth of content - and with each other - in a media-rich and totally personalized new way.
It's a new fan experience that only Yahoo! and StarWars.com could provide!
This new site - The World of Star Wars - will integrate a wealth of exclusive content from StarWars.com and a range of other unofficial sources into Yahoo!'s cutting-edge platform technologies. The goal is to bring together a host of features that people have never before seen and familiar components that will be upgraded to provide a powerful feel to the Star Wars content you already love. These include a daily update of new and exclusive content -- from videos, photos, events, and blogs -- and a fresh-new look at tagging and community involvement to seamlessly connect characters, places, ships, weapons, and more.
While loyal fans will still want to come to StarWars.com first to get all the breaking news and exclusive sneak peeks at the new Clone Wars animated TV series, hot details of new Star Wars games, and insider information about a future "live action" Star Wars television series and other ideas that George Lucas is working on, the new StarWars.Yahoo.com worlds site will give fans a completely different and exciting new experience.
Just check out pages dedicated to numerous Star Wars characters, places, things, and products, all of which will feature official and user-generated videos and photos, from fan sites, StarWarsShop items, and more. And you can contribute to this amazing Star Wars experience by adding, changing, and tagging any of the content, while sharing your opinions on message boards, commenting random thoughts on friends' profiles, and rating photos and videos. Everyone can create profiles and interact with other fans using message boards and comments.
Y2-D2 already has a profile and he can be your first World of Star Wars buddy. So discover Star Wars like never before: An experience that will bring balance to the Force. Visit http://starwars.yahoo.com now.
My, how far we've come!

Wow, how far have we come indeed. I can actually say that at one time this site was up to date but now it's nearly a year or so behind. Oh well I can't say I didn't get the chance to interact and talk to some cool people and make friends.

I love the people I've met, but really, the site could definitely use some updates. There are kinks, the content hasn't been changed, and the homepage hasn't changed in over 6 months. Talk about going to the dogs!

No, I have sadistic humor and like to put things that make no sense at the end of my posts.

Is it just my profile page that's going haywire or are other people's also going nuts? Everytime I log on something new is missing from my page. I now have no contacts (and can't add any more), my guestbook has dissapeared and my banner's vanished!

They didn't hate us when they were trying to get us to sign up *Points up at the first post*. But yeah, DPoc has it right, in my opinion.

I don't think it's so much that they hate us.. it's more like apathy.
No one at all is paying attention to what is going on. Even when you write in and tell them things like there are those of us who would be happy to be moderators and content advisors for free...
And they say thank you we'll let you know if we ever give a crap agian.

Yahoo isnt apathetic. They just dont give a damn :) Oh they cared when they first started WoSW and needed a fan base. Then they got us addicted then left us alone ~sniff~ lol

Those bastards! The site was cool at one time, I'll admit but some people take things way too seriously and the site became unfun really quick. Anyways I still do enjoy myself on the site and if it's gone tomorrow I'll find something else to kill time.

It's funny. They delete people's accounts but don't improve this site. Ugh!
