Anyone interested in a Star Wars book club?

If anyone wants to start throwing out book ideas, that is cool.

Every member can pick their top three (rank them from your first to last choice).

From there, we'll determine our first book and get started.

We'll have some general rules and guidelines, but we may need to tweak them through trial and error and revise them as we go along....also, I very much want this to be a club by and for the members.

I've read almost everything, so I'm going to vote for the two that I haven't read and should be getting this weekend: Order 66, and Coruscant Nights 2 - Street of Shadows. However I realize that is selfish and most likely dependant on first reading the Republic Commando series and Coruscant Nights 1, respectively.

So, with the best interests of the book club at heart, I vote for Vector Prime. It is the first book of the New Jedi Order series, and an excellent book outright. I also think that if we followed the Legacy of the Force series, that we could hop around before certain books in the series to read other books by the same author in order to introduce some of us to characters we might not be familiar with.

Example:

Before reading Dark Tide 1 & 2 we might check out some of the X-Wing series to introduce us to those characters that Michael Stackpole first introduced in that series.

Just a thought.

Callous.: I haven't read Vector Prime yet, but I am interested in reading it. I also haven't read the Republic Commando series yet, not do I intend to because of the way I feel about their author's (Karen Traviss) treatment of Jacen Solo and Mara Jade Skywalker in the Legacy of the Force series. However, I have a call out through Interlibrary Loan in the Lewis & Clark Library System for the first volume of Coruscant Nights.

Vader: I just curse the typo demons that tripped up my fingers when I make a mistake in my typing.

I'd like to propose a rule, but like all of the club rules, I would like members of the club to vote on it.

Rule proposal #1: each month, we will only focus on book that have been released as in paperback edition (they all are eventually, and this will keep costs down).

Please vote with or yea or nay for rule #1 (majority rules wins).

I am a member myself, and here is my top 3 (remember, make them in rank order):

1) Splinter of the Mind's Eye (own it, never read it, always wanted to)

2)Vector Prime (I like this idea...be good for discussion too I think)

3)I, Jedi (possible my favorite SW book).

I also vote yea for rule #1.

I vote yea for rule #1. I do own a good number of hardcovers (mostly because I'm a nerd and hate waiting) but focusing on one that is already in paperback is a good idea.

And I will put my top 3 books in here too:
1) Medstar 1
2) Medstar 2 (kinda predictable, but I really like them)
3) Coruscant Nights 1: Jedi Twilight

I also think Vector Prime could be a good idea, as I haven't read the NJO series and have always meant to.

well rule #1 makes sense to me ;) so okies .. *here you have your yea*

as to the books

Heir to the Empire, Thrawn Trilogy, Part 1
Rogue Squadron, X-Wing, Book 1
and how about a novilization of a movie? Stover's was outstanding ;)

sidenote: I am fine with nearly all novels except those before ... have some, never read *silly*

I'll vote yea for rule #1 also even though, I too am impatient and always buy whatever version is available first. You and I are almost opposite in that regards, Stymie. I like the hardcover versions just for the "peaks & valleys" it gives my book shelf.

That being said, my new choices are as folllows:

1) Vector Prime
2) I, Jedi (awesome book and one of my favorite characters. Thanks Stymie for reminding me about it!)
3) Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn (another great starting point for the book club)

Oct 9, 2008 3:24 PM | Report Abuse reply

Yea for rule #1. It has to be really cheap (or autographed) for me to buy Hardcover.

Top Choices:

1) Republic Commando: Hard Contact by Karen Traviss (I hope this isn't too "new")

2) I, Jedi by Michael A. Stackpole

3) Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn (the book that started it all...)

*AthenA*

1. I, Jedi (Corran Horn my favorite EU character)

2. Star By Star (My favorite book of the NJO series)

3. Heir to the Empire (The book that brought me back to a galaxy far, far away...)

Oct 9, 2008 8:05 PM | Report Abuse reply

1. Splinter of the Mind's Eye.
2. Heir to the Empire
3. Coruscant Nights
That's my vote!

Oct 9, 2008 9:13 PM | Report Abuse reply

1.rouge planet

Oct 9, 2008 11:08 PM | Report Abuse reply

1.Rouge Planet
2.Force Heretic 3, Reunion
3.The Final Prophecy

sorry for the partial post... but any ways those are my faves so far i have a lot more reading ta'do

Oct 9, 2008 11:25 PM | Report Abuse reply

I've only read the Republic Commando series by Karen Traviss so I'd recommend all of them since I've only been reading those books :D

Hard Contact
Triple Zero
True Colors

Although I havn't read these, I'm quite interested with Bloodlines and Splinter of the Mind's Eye.

And I vote yea for rule #1, since hardcover books are way too expensive

Oct 10, 2008 4:23 AM | Report Abuse reply

I would go for

Hard Contact
Darth Bane: Path of Destruction
Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice

Im fairly new to the books and i don't get much time to read, so ive chosen some books ive read, but Stymie as i mentioned to you i will throw in my thoughts when i can.

And as a RP mando'ad ive got a lot to say on the Republic Commando series lol
