are you looking to start reading books that are after the movies or before it, because I loved Darth Bane: Path of destruction (that book takes pace about 1000 years before new hope. If your looking for after then the Thrawn trilogy is pretty good

ok, try the Thrawn trilogy, it actually was the first series to be written in 1992 I think, you're like it

@#$%terpoint = "Apocalypse Now with Jedi". Windu tries to rescue his padawan from the Dark Side after she is sucked into a brutal guerilla war, a minor side conflict in the Clone Wars that nonetheless typified the deceit and futility that characterized the larger conflict.

DON'T START WITH THE THRAWN TRILOGY....START IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER....RIGHT AFTER RETURN OF THE JEDI IS THE TRUCE AT BAKURA....START WITH IT.

One word of caution...IMHO some of the mid-90s books are rubbish. Obviously thats my opinion, but some of them could nearly put you off reading another Star Wars book

acutally Jacen Molare has a point, some of the mid 90's books are boring, and It might put you off to other books, and that is why I say start where you think you might have interest in, If that means not going in order then so be, you can always go back and read them later, trust me it doesn't hurt to go out of order.

I started with the Thrawn Trilogy back when I was in elementary school.
Reading in order will take forever. We got a gazillion books out there.

I would recommend reading in order. It isn't that bad. I am doing it right now....see my blog. If you dont want to start at the "begining" then do what Kyp said start with Truce at Bakura, right after ROTJ. Darth Bane is a pretty Bad A$$ book though.

I agree with the Thrawn trilogy being a good place to start. Chronological would be a good choice too, one could get lost with all the EU characters. I really dug the Vong series, and Legacy of the Force is kicking butt too. Read the Bane book for sure!

Pick a timeframe to start with. I started with the Heir to the Empire series by Zahn. It was great, but you have a lot of different options now. Best to pick a timeframe you like and start there.

Try any Star Wars books written by Timothy Zahn, particularly those in the Thrawn Trilogy [Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and the Last Command].
