Why did the droids need to be in the book? There wasn't a need for them so why put them in? The book was a look at where the allegiance (hence the title) of people lay in the SW universe. I like comic relief as much as the next person, but in a serious story like Allegiance is, it's not appropriate. Can you imagine threepio making some inappropriate comment to LaRone and company? They'd slag him right then and there without a thought. All books =/= need for an appearance from comic relief.
