I know this isn't exactly a new book, but I noticed that some people seemed to not like it.
i thought it was brilliant. I'd like to hear what others thought of the book and why.

I read it two months ago and it seemed very good to me. I can't see why should someone not like it, but that's a matter of taste.

My guess is about why people wouldn't like it is that it does not star major characters from the movie (although Anakin and Obi have a brief role in the beginning--it was cool in itself to see Zahn's take on Ani and Obi).

Well, major characters is better having a small role in such books. I like to see new and relatively unknown characters...

The book is great if you read all of Zahn's previous books that include Admiral Thrawn, one of the best characters ever created for the Expanded Universe. If you have never read any of Zahn's books before picking up Outbound Flight, you likely would have not enjoyed re-visiting all the characters he created. It is very much a "prequel" to many of Zahn's previous works set in the Star Wars universe. I liked it because it finally put all the pieces together regarding Outbound Flight and what really happened to the crew.

I don't know why some people don't like it. Yes, Lorana was a little annoying and some of the events were weird, but when things went into high gear, I was flying through the pages. It was totally awesome--highly recommended.

Yeah, this was definitely on my favorite books list. The new characters were... refreshing I think would be the term. We learned about new characters and learned about an intriguing relationship between the Jedi and the OB Inhabitants that wouldn't be what you think Jedi would do.
If you enjoyed this book, I think there is a sequel set in New Republic Era that focuses on finding the OB Flight project. It was also very interesting and filled with action, deception, and the other usual stuff.

I've started this book 3 times now and can't get myself through the first 20 pages... I'll try again... after the summer... after the fall... when it gets dark early and I'm really, really bored...

Crystal, Lorena Jinzler was totally one of my favorite characters. She was one of the most dynamic characters, in terms of character growth, in the book.
Have you read the sort of sequel to that book: Survivor's Quest?

OBF is one of thoughs books that fills a small void in the story as a hole.Zahn seems to be starting to write these storys now and hight lite some lesser characters and I like it.The Story is still Star Wars just a little different track.I realy like the in between story so OBF was a great read. :}SLK

I read it yet it made very little impression on me-parts seemed too contrived (but that could be said of a dozen books I do enjoy), in the end I felt it was alright but no Shadows of the Empire or Darth Bane-Path of Destruction or in any way equal to the original Thrawn trilogy.

I don't see how it could be equal to the Thrawn trilogy since the story was completely different and it was, well, a trilogy.

Maybe that is all true Master Stymie but I seem to recall a jedi hating brother near the beginning that was just feeble. It had no grand sweep, in the end, for me, no reason to care.

If you don't like something, I'm not one to tell you different.

This damnable machine hasn't added the rest of my typing.
Anyway-I felt I didn't connect too well to the book. I was dragged to see "This is our Youth" a play in london with Haydn Christiansen. I didn't want to go. Once I got there I really enjoyed because I connected to the characters. Similiarly Outbound Flight must have reached alot of people. Just not me.

I liked the book pretty well. The only thing that is really a downside is of course, you know that in the end it can only end a certain way, kinda like with the prequals... everyone wants to know what happened but most people who want to know also have their own ideas of how the story should go anyways. Timothy Zahn has made great contributions into this universe.
