Fate of the Jedi

The next chapter in the extraordinary history of the Star Wars galaxy begins in Outcast, the first book of the new series, Fate of the Jedi. This hardcover release by Del Rey Books from author Aaron Allston is due out on March 24, 2009.

After a violent civil war, and the devastation wrought by the now-fallen Darth Caedus, the Galactic Alliance is in crisis -- and in need. From all corners, politicians, power brokers, and military leaders converge on Coruscant for a crucial summit to restore order, negotiate differences, and determine the future of their unified worlds. But even more critical, and far more uncertain, is the future of the Jedi.

In a shocking move, Chief of State Natasi Daala orders the arrest of Luke Skywalker for failing to prevent Jacen Solo's turn to the dark side and his subsequent reign of terror as a Sith Lord. But it's only the first blow in an anti-Jedi backlash fueled by a hostile government and suspicious public. When Jedi Knight Valin Horn, scion of a politically influential family, suffers a mysterious psychotic break and becomes a dangerous fugitive, the Jedi become the target of a media-driven witch hunt. Facing conviction on the damning charges, Luke has only one choice. He must strike a bargain with the calculating Daala: his freedom in exchange for his exile -- from Coruscant and from the Jedi Order.

Now, though forbidden to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is determined to keep history from being repeated. With his son, Ben, at his side, Luke sets out to unravel the shocking truth behind Jacen Solo's corruption and downfall. But the secrets he uncovers among the enigmatic Force mystics of the distant world Dorin may bring his quest -- and life as he knows it -- to a sudden end. And all the while, another Jedi Knight, consumed by the same madness as Valin Horn, is headed for Coruscant on a fearsome mission that could doom the Jedi Order . . . and devastate the entire galaxy.

I have a feeling this series is gonna be a great and must read. I hope they show Jag and Jaina get married as well as the deaths of Boba Fett, Luke, Liea, Han, Wedge and Lando.

That's a pretty loaded death list....

What's the point of killing all of them off? Star Wars will lose a lot of fans (including me) if the main three characters all die in one series. Both I agree about Jaina and Jag- they really should get married.

Chance...Allana did ask her grandfather if Aunt jaina was going to marrry jag...just befiore her grandma walked into t he @#$%pit of the Falcon after learning from Luike there was a warrant out for his arrest on the chage of 'dereliction of duty' at the end of the novel 'Millenium Falcon.'

But Darth Lazious does have a point: eventually all of the older main characters *ARE* going to die.

I can honestly say if any of the old characters die i will not read it.

I'll read it anyways...I have a Star Wars addiction.

You're missing the point I was trying to make, Jedi_Marksman. My point being that nopone even in STAR WARS is immortal. I think the Force would be seriously unbalanced if anyone did.

I might read it if my library ever gets it.

Presented here for the first time is the cover art and story summary for the third book in the Fate of the Jedi series. It will be available in hardcover from Del Rey Books in August. Abyss is written by New York Times bestselling author, Troy Denning. For a look at the covers of the first two books, click here for Outcast and here for Omen.

Below is the summary of the story as it appears on the inside of the hardcover jacket.

BEWARE! Do not read any further if you're sensitive to plot spoilers!

Tensions are heightening across the galaxy as more Jedi Knights seemingly go insane and anti-Jedi sentiment, fed by fear and mistrust, spreads from world to world. Han and Leia Solo have their hands full helping the Jedi Order keep the affected Knights out of the grip of government security -- whose only solution is to freeze the offenders in carbonite.

Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker and his son, Ben, arrive in the mysterious part of space called the Maw, in search of more clues to whatever it was that caused Jacen Solo's fall to the dark side. It is here, in the Maw, that they will confront the members of a lost Sith tribe who are determined to kill Luke. And it is here, too, where Ben will meet the Force ghost of his dead mother, Mara Jade.

I'm kind of leery of reading anything in the post-Legacy era that was written by the authors that worked with Ms. Traviss to kill Mara and Jacen (in separate books) AND to elevate the Mandalorians.
