The book we will be covering for the next two months is Darth Bane: Rule of Two by Drew Karpyshyn.
Like last time, the only thing we ask is that you be courteous to others' opinions. Disagree in a respectful manner. But do feel free to disagree.
Tangents are fine. But if they get too far off topic, we will ask you to start a new thread to continue discussing the tangent. But error on the side of saying what you have to say. It could lead to an interesting discussion.

I already read it :) It picks up perfectly where PoD ends. The pairing of Bane and Rain/Zahanna is an interesting one-kinda reminded me of Hurst and Des though he treated her better. Rain was pretty complex: pulled from everything she knew as a kid to fight in the New Sith Wars, is lost from her cousins and believed dead, sees the death of her only friend-the Bouncer Laa- because of two Jedi, meeting Bane, seeing her cousin again, and so much more.
I'm gonna shut up now for those only on Chap One :D

It's ok, if you going to spoil anything just put some kind of warning! Which book did you think was better Lady Heartless?
I have been waiting to discuss this book forever, since I couldn't contain myself and read it right after PoD!

Gonna wuss out and say both were equally dymanic since Ro2 compliments PoD perfectly.
:)

Are you serious? I think Ro2 was way better because it had way more action and the ending was awesome!

Let the debate begin!
Don't worry about spoilers. But do give warning if you think something may be a spoiler. But consider that everyone will be reading at different paces anyway.
So readers beware: any post has the potential to be a spoiler to you.
That being said, while I REALLY enjoyed RoT, I though PoD was waaaay better.
I disagree about the action part. Besides, more action does not make a better book. And while the end was really cool, PoD was both an overall better story and a better TOLD story.
As I said in the last discussion, RoT seemed to display some of the writing limits of Karpyshyn.
I did not rifle through RoT as I did PoD.
Also, things often seemed to work out a bit too...conveniently at for both Bane and Zannah.
Really, I thought Zannah was the more interesting, better developed, and dynamic character in the book.
Curious to see if Crystal will consider her Mary Sue...LOL.

I'm curious to see if she is too... ;)
Alas, I wish I had finished this other book sooner. It was so not exciting and gripping like Bane. Ah, well, soon enough!

Luv the badge Boobius!
Rule of Two was a very good read. Once again, I will re-read it as I did the last book. I read Rule of Two originally over last summer. Zannah is well developed in this book. She would have to be considering that the only time she was mentioned in the last one was at the end.

***SPOILER ALERT!!!***
I loved the way she dealt with the Chiss woman who was her romantic rival! Normally I likre the Chiss, but she was NOT as well written a Chiss as Grand Admiral Thrawn was!
Sith sorcery to make the Chiss woman go catatonic! Cool. Zahannah was really cool in that scene!

the ending of the book was best of any SW book that I have read.

I've got my own ideas for a Mary Sue, but I'm going to wait and see who Crystal picks out and see if we agree.

Thanks for the kind words on the badge!
Artorius, I couldn't agree with you more!
Stymie, action doesn't make a book better, but it does make a book more exciting! Ro2 has more/better cliff hangers, it's not as predictable, we get to see Bane at his peek and the ending was awesome! I never saw it coming and it blew me mind! I PoD, we all knew that Bane had to restore the "Rule of Two" and in doing so the Brotherhood would have to die = Predictable Ending!

I would argue there was a lot more action in the POD--by far!! A whole war in fact, versus s few skirmished in RoT.
Also, an exciting ending doesn't make a good nook either. And that ending, while pretty cool, was one of the big instances I referred to before that I thought worked out waaaay to conveniently for our Sith protagonists. I liked it--but the way the Jedi just accepted it with minimal investingation just seemed kind ridiculous.
Although it did create a good moment of, how the heck are they going to get out of this one?
But everything worked out conveniently in the end. And I would argue you KNEW that would happen to--b/c it had to end with the everyone thinking the Sith were extinct. You just didn't know the details of how that would happen, in the same way you didn't know the details of how things would happen in PoD.
And knowing what will happen is one thing--but the story is in the telling, despite if we know how it will turn out. Consider movies you love that you will watch over and over. You know what will happen.
I really like RoT, don't get me wrong. I am just claiming PoD was a much better book, with a better and tighter story.
What I did really like about RoT was that is was really more about Zannah. I'll have more to say about that later...and why the book really kind of bothered me initially--until I realized what the book was.

Well i started the book straight after Path and i've been away this bank holiday-well it's a bank holiday in England anyway- but i've been keeping notes.
I loved the gore and ruthlesness when he killed the Sith raiders in Chapter 3! When he found the Qordis' notes on things tomb i thought i could guess the story already but it wasn't as i guessed at all.
Two quotes i loved: "Equality is a lie." and "Equality is a pervesion of the natural order!"
I've nearly finished but still got probably 100 pages.
The thing that i've found about the book is how i have got so far and to be honest not a lot seems to have happened. We had a 100 pages when Bane found Zannath yeah. But then the last 100 pages (So 200 pages in) just seemed to be about Zannath setting up Kel.
Hetton was an intresting guy but i thought Drew would build up on him. Can't wait to read the rest of the book!

Great points, Vengeance. Interested to hear your take on how on the rest of the book.
And as is evident in my previous post, I REMAIN the self-proclaimed Typo Master!
Bow down to my lack of greatness!

I see tyhat so far I'm the only one, so far, to comment ion Cynda the poor Chiss woman who was Zahannah's romantic rival with Kel.
