I used to read them pretty avidly back when the novels started coming out. I really enjoyed the Thrawn trilogy. I've been out of the book reading loop for awhile, so what would anyone suggest I read that is the best, most relevant stuff.
Thanks

i just finished the new book in the Legacy of the Force series. I read the first book at random. saw at the library and read it. It's been a hell of a series so far. And some one here told me the New Jedi Order series is good too. Haven't read that but plan on it.

Yeah, the other two series I think that are "musts" are the "New Jedi Order" and "Legacy of the Force." "Republic Commando" isn't bad, either.

If you're a Jed Head, then I think you'd like I, Jedi or the ongoing Legacy of the Force series which features a lot of light-saber play.
If you're someone who loves Star Wars for the thrill of space, then I'd recommed the X-Wing Series. Stackpole's Rogue Squadron to be more specific for the flying and Alliston's Wraith Squadron for the humor and espionage feel.

I'm reading the last book of the Bounty Hunter Wars, good stuff indeed. I'd say start early in the timeline so that you don't get ahead of yourself in terms of character development. It really sucks reading a book knowing who's going to die.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm going to start at the beginning with the Darth Bane books and work my way up through the timeline that way. What books should I maybe avoid?

It's a tough one to say, as it is more a personal choice to be honest. Some books I dislike, others may love and vice versa

I say just read them all....some may give you a headache (Children of the Jedi, The Crystal Star) but they all add the your overall "knowledge" of the characters. Each book introduces us to a new character that eventually comes up in a later novel....which just makes you not have to go "who is Irek Ismaren?" or "what's a Callista?" or "Luke and the Solo twins fought some Dark Jedi? Brakiss and Kueller????"
There is even a Character from one of the Ewok movies that shows up in the New Jedi Order books.....little things like that makes ME want to read and watch anything that has to do with Star Wars at all. But that is just my opinion

Children of the Jedi kinda gave me a headache too, but it was not too bad. The Corellian Series by Roger MacBride Allen is really good, The Black Fleet crisis isn't half bad either.

Xwing series, very technical. And it also helps you understand alot about wedge.

I'd rather suggest books rather than tell you what to avoid. If you like the idea of working your way up the time line go that way.
If you're working you're way up the timeline I do suggest the Tales of the Jedi Omnibus if you're into the Sith Order. It is a huge graphic novel of the whole origin of the Sith and the Republic 5000 years before A New Hope and 4000 years before Bane.

I own most of the novels. My favorites actaully are the young jedi series that introduced Jacen and Jaina. I'm currently really into the Legacy of the Force.

The Legacy of the Force series is really good.
Bane is another really good book, explains why he created the rule of two.
Rise of Lord Vader is great because it gives more insight into Vader shortly after the end of Ep. 3

to be able to follow best i think you shoudl read the jedi academy trilogy after thrawn series, and than go read tnjo series

how bout....courtship of princess leia (key important characters and events here), then thrawn trilogy, the jedi academy trilogy, young and junior jedi knight series(more key and important characters and events), then NJO, then LOTF.
obviously i've skipped a few books....but most of the events in those are rehashed in later books.....but some aren't, like:
The Crystal Star(Imperial Dark Jedi, Hethrir, behind the scenes)
The New Rebellion(Dark Jedi Brakiss and Kueller)
The Black Fleet Crisis(Yevetha)
The Corellian Trilogy(introduces Thrackan Sal-Solo, Centerpoint Station)
