Chapter One...

From the private journal of CC-5052 [Clone Commander Bly]----

Some of my brothers say the War is almost over? but for some strange reason I don?t believe them. True- Count Dooku of Serenno, head of our enemies the Separatists and fallen Jedi, is now dead by the saber of Anakin Skywalker. And yes, word from Coruscant says that General Grievous, the infamous Jedi killer and Sep. leader, is now being hunted down by General Kenobi on Uptapau. The once massive droid army is scattered and helpless without its commanders?
Despite the Republic?s obviously brilliant achievements, I think that it is no doubt falling apart. The Republic has probably been rotting since before the Battle of Geonosis and the first shots of the Clone Wars. Maybe even before Tyr!@#$ hired Jango Fett to spawn the Grand Army of the Republic years ago. Perhaps since it was created? who can tell?
Well? it isn?t the place of a mere soldier to question Chancellor Palpatine?s decisions. Ha. If only Aayla could hear me now?
Enough of the deep stuff. My brother Alpha gave me this recorder to, obviously, ?record the battles I go through, the supply intake of my troops, droid strategies, how long I take in the ?fresher etc?? Yeah, yeah. His own words, too. I guess it is the newest ?in? thing with all the ARC troopers. It would be just like them?
Here I go.
Name?s Bly, but if you need formal stuff, I am CC-5052, commander of the renowned 327th Star Corps. My general, Jedi Knight Aayla Secura, and I are currently aboard our very own flagship the Intrepid. We are in hyperspace enroute to the Commerce Guide?s prison world of Felecia. Our mission- rescue General Barriss Offee and finish her mission, which is, in short, take over. Should be a piece of muju cake, as Aayla says, but Jedi are always? over cheerful. And something is fishy about this mission? I don?t know why. Part of the 501st legion has preceded us, but Command hasn?t heard anything from them yet. I know the 501st commander, and he isn?t one to dawdle on a mission. Hmmmm? that could be bad. Possibly. And I never really liked their blue armor markings? my ?goldie locks? look much more sophisticated?
Ah well. Another mission means more droids to blast. And more ration cubes. And more midnight watches?
May the Force be with us.
-Commander Bly signing out-

Bly snapped alert as his helmet?s built in comlink buzzed in his ear. Lightly rapping the side of his helmet turned on the mike and he said, ?Commander Bly here. State your intentions now or be blown all the way to Coruscant.? Aayla?s sing-song voice sounded in his ear.
?Whoa there! Since when did you turn into a Sith Lord? I was just wondering if you could be bothered to meet me on the bridge!? Bly grinned.
?Okay, fine. I?ll get there eventually.? He said as he slowly began extracting himself from his seat in the corner of the Intrepid?s mess room.
?No you don?t. I?ll race you there!!!? Aayla exclaimed, then, with a pop, the line was cut. Bly leapt out of the chair so fast it fell over. Swerving around tables and other clones, Bly flew out of the mess and into the corridor. His plastisteel boots rang dully against the metal floor as he ran headlong for the turbolift that would lift him to the bridge. Bly?s armored palm slapped the sensor pad which would summon the lift. To his dismay, the turbolift was already in use. A long minute passed and Bly?s patience had just about worn out when the door swished open. Inside stood a beat up protocol droid.
?Oh my! Commander Bly! I am terribly sorry? I had no idea you where?.? Bly shoved the blabbering droid into the hallway and punched in the command for the bridge. That droid needs reprogramming, Bly thought as he shot upwards. Thirty seconds passed, then the lift emitted a cheery ?ding!?. Bly was out of the turbolift and running before the doors where completely open. Sprinting down the corridor, Bly slapped the bridge?s door control and charged onto the command deck. Everyone looked up as he whooped in triumph. Aayla was nowhere to be seen! Bly?s maniac grin evaporated when a lithe figure slipped from behind a tall control panel.
?There you are, Bly! I was beginning to think you had gotten yourself lost!? Bly groaned and pulled himself into a less-than-crisp salute.
?Reporting for duty, General. Would you like your caf with cream??
Aayla smiled and beckoned him to the viewport. Outside the abnormal stars of hyperspace streaked in long glowing lines against the velvety black of space. As they stood there in silence, Bly studied his general. Aayla was a Twi lek, bearing the colored skin and lekku, or head-tails, of her people. Being a Rutian Twi lek, Aayla had blue skin and light tan patterns adorning her long lekku. She was not much shorter than him, coming up to the bridge of his nose, and had the slim, graceful build of a dancer. Bly had learned from various sources and his own experience that she was renown in the Jedi Order for her beauty, gracefulness, deadly lightsaber skills, and amazing Force abilities. Bly had been serving with her since the beginning of the Clone Wars, and knew all of her favorite moves. Always jumping, he thought wryly, and never staying on the ground for more than a minute. Aayla?s voice interrupted his thoughts.
?Forty-five standard minutes to reversion. Send the briefing to our escort.? Bly nodded and blinked rapidly. The HUD on his helmet?s visor lit up with information. It was a documentary on Felucia and a briefing on the mission. With another fit of blinking, Bly sent the info over the comm to all the troopers who would be accompanying him and Aayla planet side. Turning to Aayla, he said,
?Done. Anything I need to know before hand?? Aayla unclipped a datapad from her utility belt and flicked it on.
?About one minute before you got up here, we received a coded message from Commander Oppo of the 501st. It was slightly eroded but we could make out a few things here and there?? She trailed off and looked at him. ?As you know, Oppo took 50 troopers with him. Well, there are only twenty now and they are being attacked by unknown forces. Good news, though; they have managed to pinpoint Barriss? location. Our scouting mission has turned into a rescue mission.? Bly frowned. Oppo had better have a good explanation for losing more than half of his squad.
?Okay. That?s? interesting. So now what?? Aayla pulled up a new screen on her datapad and cleared her throat.
?We are going to take a gunship and a compliment of clones to the last known location of the 501st, which is where they called from. Investigate, rescue them if need be, find them if they aren?t there. In other words, find out what happened to them. Oppo wasn?t able to say Barriss? location in the message, so hopefully that info has survived. If not, we will have to find it out then report to the Intrepid for reinforcements. Then we rescue Barriss and take over. Piece of muju cake.? Bly rolled his eyes.
?Let?s do it, General.?
Together they strode down the isle to the turbolift doors. Amazingly, no one occupied the lift and the doors opened immediately. Bly tapped the control and sent the turbolift dropping to the hanger level. Aayla spoke from beside him.
?Well, here we go again. It seems as if this war will never end.? She trailed off sadly. ?And it seems as if my friends will never stop leaving and not returning.? Bly shifted uncomfortably. The general was normally happy, but sometimes that wasn?t the case.
?It is war. People die in wars all the time.? He said firmly. Aayla continued to stare off in space. After a while she spoke.
?Bly, what is it like to be completely sure of what to do? I have yet to see a clone that?s lost or confused.?
?Completely sure? Oh- I am never completely sure of anything. Yeah- I get orders; they tell me my duty and whatnot. But what about honor? I have gotten some orders that conflict with my conscience. Quite a few, actually.?
?Really. That makes me feel so much better.? Aayla retorted. ?And that says so much about the people who command you, too.? Bly?s own retort was cut off when the chime went off. They had arrived at the hanger. Aayla grabbed his arm to prevent him from leaving.
?Bly, I just want you to know? thanks. I wouldn?t want anyone else at my side right now.? Surprised but pleased, Bly nodded and replied.
?Neither would I, General.? She grinned and swept ahead of him into the vast hanger.
The hanger was huge. ARC-170s littered the floor and V wings hung from their racks on the ceiling. A few cargo ships where parked at the far side near the environment shield that kept the air in the hanger. To the right was a single gunship which would serve as transportation to the planet surface. The bass rumble of the Intrepid?s sublight engines filled the room. Mechanics and clone troopers hurried here and there, refueling and repairing ships. Weaving through parked vehicles, Aayla and Bly made their way to the gunship. Waiting for them was a group of thirty-five troopers; a full complement. As Aayla neared them, the troopers clicked their heels together and saluted briskly.
?At ease, soldiers.? She said. When they had resumed their former positions, Aayla continued. ?Everyone got the briefing, correct??
?Yes, ma?am? the group intoned. Aayla @#$%ed her brow.
?And please call me Aayla, okay? That?s an order.?
Serious as ever, they said,
?Yes, Aayla? in perfect unison. She rolled her eyes and Bly said,
?Just get in the gunship, fellows.? Swinging into the gunship?s open hatch, Bly took his place next to the @#$%pit entrance, opposite Aayla.
Speaking into the intercom, Bly told the pilot to take off. The hatch doors clanged shut and Bly felt him ears pop as the air pressurized. There where no viewports in the troop bay but Bly could feel the transport lift off and glide out of the hanger. Bly pulled out his blaster rifle and its cleaning cloth. The ride would be about one standard hour. Across the narrow isle, Aalya was sitting cross legged on her seat, meditating. How many missions had started exactly like this? Bly couldn?t recall. Too many for his liking. No matter how hard he pushed himself; no matter how good the odds where; someone always died on a mission. It?s just how things are. Bly shook his head to clear his thoughts and turned to Aayla.
?Gen? Aayla??
?Yes, Bly??
?Do you know anything about General Offee? The briefing didn?t include a background report.? Aayla got that distant look in her eyes that usually meant a long lecture was imminent. Bly removed his helmet and began tweaking the circuits.
?Yes, of course. She was in my class at the Jedi Temple? The star pupil, actually. You know- the know-it-all. All the Masters loved her.? Aayla shook her head. ?I remember we used to always spar together in the tournaments and she would always win.? Aayla laughed lightly. ?Then one day, during the last round of the Apprentice?s Tournament, she twisted her ankle while fighting me and I won. You can?t imagine how happy I was! Besides beating her, I was even chosen to become Quinlan Vos?s Padawan!? Her face lost its glow as she continued. ?She never got over it. Because of me, Barriss almost lost her chance to be a Padawan. I thought she?d be sent to the Agricultural Corps for sure, but Jedi Master Luminara Undili chose Barriss on her brief stay at the Temple. I haven?t seen her since.? Aayla paused to recollect. ?I heard she was at Geonosis, but for some reason I don?t recall seeing her. Quinlan said she became a Healer and even saved Master Tra Saa?s life! I also heard she saved Master Obi Wan Kenobi?s life as well? Barriss has really accomplished things in her lifetime?? Aayla trailed off. ?Anything else you need to know??
Bly nodded. ?Well, I was thinking more like Force abilities and battle tactics but a biography works too.?
She smiled and said,? Barriss specializes in healing and telekinesis. I don?t think she?s had much tactical planning experience. She?s pretty good with the lightsaber, and that?s about all I know.?
Bly thanked her and went back to fiddling with his helmet. Time crawled past, but finally the pilot?s voice can over the intercom.
?We are about to enter Felucia?s atmosphere, General. I have strange readings coming from western sector. Laser blasts and detonations.?
Aayla?s eyes snapped wide open and she glanced at Bly. Her eyelids drifted half shut.
?It?s the 501st. They are under attack by?? Aayla paused and her lips curled into a frown. Bly snapped his helmet on and grasped his blaster rifle.
?By what, uh, Aayla?? Her eyes opened and Bly could see distress written on her face. Not good.
?Acklay. There are acklay on this planet.?

honor and duty- chapter two- part one

Aayla's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. Acklay. Why where acklay here of all places? Dimly, Aayla could see Bly looking at her funny. Who cares if he thought she was scared? She was. Acklay. Acklay. The word reverberated through her mind. Her thoughts flashed back to that fatal day in the Geonosis arena.

Aayla tasted dust in her mouth. Scorching sunlight burned her skin. A trickle of blood snaked down her forehead. Where was she? That's right- she was at Geonosis in the execution arena. All around her lightsabers flashed and blaster bolts flew. Bodies and wrecked battle droids littered the dry ground. Wait- where was Aria, her best friend from the Jedi Temple?!? Aayla's eyes frantically searched the arena. Aayla's heart pounded unsteadily. A flash of white robes caught her eye. Aria!!! As if feeling Aayla's eyes on her, Aria turned and looked straight at Aayla. A faint smile was on her lips. A huge, green blue shape loomed up behind her. Aayla's mouth formed a silent scream.

"General? Aayla? Are you alright?" Bly's words jerked Aayla out of her thoughts. She became aware of a white and yellow helmet filling her vision. She also noticed that she was shaking. Aayla shook her head.
"Yeah, I'm fine Bly." She tried a wry grin, but a smile wouldn?t come. Bly motioned to the trooper sitting nest to her to move and took his place.
"We're entering the atmosphere, General." He said pointlessly. Aayla nodded silently. She closed her eyes and began to meditate. Aayla's heart slowed and her hands grew still. Aayla opened her eyes and looked over at Bly, who was studying her out of the corner of his eye.
"Ok. Let's do this."
At Bly's command, the gunship's side doors slid back revealing a scene Aayla would never forget. Felucia.
Aayla rose and stood at the open hatch. Outside, Felucia was a blur of color. No, Aayla couldn't even call what she was seeing 'color'. The landscape practically glowed. Still, the scenery would have to wait. They had some troopers to save.
"Ok, troops! This is it! Just follow Bly's lead- I may be busy. The 501st is under attack by acklay. I trust you all know about them." Aayla had to shout to be heard over the wind. "May the Force be with you!"
Soon, Aayla could see flickers of blaster fire ahead of the. The gunship rapidly closed on the 501st?s position. Aayla could see little white dots that where the clones and bigger green shapes as well. Acklay. She unclipped her lightsaber hilt, relishing the feeling of the cool metal against her palm. Aayla heard her troopers readying their blasters behind her. This is it. She repeated to herself.
As the gunship sped towards the battle, Aayla could tell that the 501st wasn't doing that great. It was about 20 men verses three hulking acklay. And Aayla knew that blasters did little damage to the acklay's hard exoskeleton. The crab-like creatures stood three grown men high and their spear like legs and crushing claws didn't help much, either. Their mouth-full of razor sharp teeth completed the image of a born hunter. In her mind, Aayla could still hear Aria's dieing cry. There is no death, there is the Force. Aayla moved her thoughts to the impending battle. Acklay may be impervious to blasters, but lightsabers where much different. A plan formed in Aayla's head and she decided it would work. Hopefully. Just as the gunship was about to pass over the first acklay, Aayla turned to Bly and nudged his armor-plated arm.
"Bly! I have a plan! Take over for me!"
