Lucas actually did consider putting in a love triangle between Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme, leading to Anakin's increasing jealousy of Obi-Wan and his suspicion of Obi-Wan's level of involvement with Padme. It was considered, and even put in the script, but scrapped because Lucas felt that since he had already done it with Han, Luke, and Leia, it didn't need\shouldn't be repeated.
