I think the only thing that was necessary was the screens original pixilation. Although it would have been cool if some of the original scenes were combined with some of the special edition. for example the original max rebo band dance and music combined with that of the special edition.

I actually liked the special editions. George Lucas added lots of stuff to the moves to make them seem better. The only scene I would have not added is Hayden Christiansen in the closing scene of Jedi.

I like the Special Edition, but the scene with Jaba in Ep-IV, The Greedo shoot-firs thing and the max rebos' band new song are simple awful sh@#t. http://stygyan.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/facepalm2ic7copyrl2-jpg.jpeg

I believe it was not bad with the extra content making the saga more fun though I really wish they added "Shadows of the Empire" story to Episode 5 and 6.

I don't think it was unnessesary, i liked what was done with them, they should go back and edit the light sabre on the falcon in IV and put back boba's voice in V.

I feel that most of the additions/improvements made the movies better. They should have done better improvements on some of the scenes.
One would be when Luke turns the lightsaber on and off.

I think the Special editions was way unnecessary. After growing up with The Trilogy, the additions looked fake and overdone. The only thing which would have improved the original trilogy would have been to clean up some of the grainy focus. I put off seeing the Special editions a long time and I was sorely disappointed. The added creatures and troopers at Los Isley, Jabba talking to Han in front of the Falcon, the additional Rebel fighters in Empire, and Hayden Christiansen at the end were totally unecessary. I would like a cleaned up classic trilogy on DVD or even just the classic on DVD with all its focus and camera problems. It was way ahead of its time. You don't see people trying to update the Mona Lisa.
