The Battle of Ruusan
"To drive the darkness away, it seems, the light will have to perish with it!"
?Lord Hoth
The Ruusan campaign was the last campaign of the New Sith Wars. The campaign also is referred to simply as the Battle of Ruusan, although that is also used to describe the seventh battle. They consisted of seven battles on the planet Ruusan that were stretched over a two year span from 1,002 BBY to 1,000 BBY.
During the campaign, the Galactic Republic's Army of Light was commanded by Jedi Lord Hoth, and the New Sith Empire's Brotherhood of Darkness was led by Kaan, Dark Lord of the Sith. Throughout the course of the battles, additional reinforcements attempted to land on Ruusan, though many Jedi forces were destroyed by an orbiting Sith blockade and many Sith reinforcements were destroyed by the Republic Navy en route to Ruusan. Five of the seven battles were won by the Army of Light.
The final battle led to the destruction of both the Brotherhood of Darkness and the entire Jedi force on Ruusan, and led to the Ruusan Reformation of Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum and the Rule of Two of Darth Bane.

The First Battle of Ruusan was one of the final battles of the New Sith Wars, and the first battle of the last campaign of the war. A fleet of Sith warships under the direct command of Lord Kaan ambushed a larger Republic fleet orbiting Ruusan, a politically insignificant world that the Republic was using as a base to launch raids on Sith-occupied Kashyyyk. On his command ship Nightfall, Kaan used battle meditation, while Kopecz flew with the Sith interceptors.
In the initial attack, Nightfall destroyed the Republic battleship on picket duty, and began to overwhelm the other two support ships, preventing them from offering any support to the heavier but less maneuverable Hammerhead-class capital ships that formed the backbone of the Republic defense. Meanwhile, an attack by the Sith's Buzzard fighters crippled two of the Hammerheads themselves, taking down their deflector shields.
The three Sith Dreadnaughts followed up the attack on the two now-shieldless Hammerheads, while the corsair battleships used their superior maneuverability to attack the other two.
However, at this point, the Jedi Master commanding the Republic fleet intervened with her own battle meditation. One of the corsairs, Fury, was destroyed by a sudden volley of coordinated weapons fire from the two Hammerheads it was attacking, and the Sith Dreadnaughts were surprised by four full squadrons of Aurek fighters, launching from the cargo holds of the two cruisers they were attacking.
The remaining battleship, Rage, and the three Dreadnaughts, were forced to withdraw and regroup as the Republic seized the initiative. Kaan had lost the element of surprise, and found himself faced with an enemy that outnumbered and outgunned him, backed by battle meditation that was the equal to his own.
At this point, Lord Kopecz fought his way through the Republic fighter screen to board the Republic flagship in his interceptor, killing the troops guarding the hangar, and then moving on foot through the ship to find and eliminate the the Jedi Master. After defeating an elite security squad and two Selkath Padawans guarding the Master?an elderly female Cerean?Kopecz cut the alien down, silently acknowledging her resolve, but ending the Republic's change of fortune.
Kaan's forces pressed the attack once more, and all the defending Republic ships were destroyed, along with all the Republic troops aboard them.

The Third Battle of Ruusan was one of the final battles of the New Sith Wars. Following the previous engagement over Ruusan, the victorious Sith forces established a surface base and kept their fleet in orbit. Thousands of Jedi under Lord Hoth - the new Army of Light - arrived on the world to destroy the Sith garrison, while Kaan and his main forces were occupied with taking the Bormea Sector. The Jedi used one- and two-man fighters instead of capital ships, thus evading the Sith fleet, and their use of the Force overwhelmed the basic Sith infantry.

?Darth Bane to the Sith Council
The Sixth Battle of Ruusan was the penultimate battle of the New Sith Wars.
The Brotherhood of Darkness sent their minions on a diversionary attack on the Jedi forces of General Kiel Charny while the Dark Lords themselves assembled in a meditation circle far away from the battlefield.
There, under the guidance of the recently returned Darth Bane, the Sith joined together to create a wave of Force-powered devastation that decimated the ranks of the Army of Light and scoured the surface of Ruusan.
But before they achieved total victory, Kaan broke from the meditation circle, leading his fellow Lords in a more conventional swoop-based aerial assault on the broken ranks of the Jedi.
In the meantime, 300 Jedi Knights under Lord Valenthyne Farfalla had arrived from their confrontation with King Lahzar, fighting through the Sith blockade over Ruusan, arriving just in time to help stave off Kaan's advances. In the ensuing confusion after the battle, the young Padawan Darovit defected to the Sith, but not before killing the heavily wounded and incapacitated Kiel Charny.

The Seventh Battle of Ruusan was the final major engagement of the conflict known as the New Sith Wars. There were actually seven of these battles on the world during the last days of the war, but the pivotal and last battle is the one most remembered, due to the use of the thought bomb, it is usually referred to just as the Battle of Ruusan.
The New Sith Wars began 2,000 years before the Battle of Yavin and ended after a thousand years of conflict, including internal Sith conflict, and all-out assaults on the Galactic Republic. At one stage during the long war, the Sith had been in control of most of the galaxy, but the Army of Light slowly regained the Republic's lost territory with decades of hard-fought campaigns.
Eventually, the Sith retreated to Ruusan, where, after six months of battle with the Jedi in six separate battles, the Sith were near defeat.
The Jedi Lord Valenthyne Farfalla crushed the Sith in the pivotal seventh battle of Ruusan, and Lord Hoth journeyed to apprehend the leaders of the Brotherhood of Darkness. The Sith, however, were waiting for them and had one final weapon.
In an act of desperation, Lord Kaan, leader of the Sith, unleashed the thought bomb and in an instant, every Force-sensitive in the blast radius was destroyed. Lord Farfalla had retreated with the majority of the Army of Light in accordance with Lord Hoth's final orders. The only surviving Sith was Darth Bane, who, while leaving the battlefield, came across the young girl Zannah.

The conclusion of the final confrontation on Ruusan led to the apparent extinction of the Sith, and the restructuring of the Republic and of the Jedi Order.
Afterwards, the Jedi Johun Othone built a monument at the battlefield to commemorate the fallen Jedi of the war. It became known as the Valley of the Jedi.
The outcome of the war also resulted in the most powerful and last surviving Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Bane, deciding henceforth to concentrate the dark side of the Force in only one master and one apprentice thereby restructuring the Sith Order.
This decision allowed the Sith to hide within the Republic until their existence was finally revealed with the rise of Emperor Palpatine, whose apprentices included Darth Maul, Darth Tyr!@#$, and finally Darth Vader
The return of Anakin Skywalker, once Darth Vader, to the light, and the death of the Emperor, who was the last true master of Darth Bane's reformed Sith Order, brought to fruition the prophecy of the Chosen One who would bring "balance to the Force".
