The critic is giving things a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Gossiper is linked to message boards. The shutter bug is for uploading pics. (11 pics to reach level 2 and 21 to reach level 3 on this award) The director award(looks like a mini-dv) is for uploading videos. Chatterbox is linked to guestbooks and leaving comments on pics and vids. I didn't get mine untill I watched the anti-smoking PSA and commented on it. I have also noticed that the badges do not go past level 3 for some reason.

As far as rank goes, it is suppose to be different if you are light or dark side. I am dark side and had "cloned club dancer" untill I reached level 5. At level 5 my rank changed to "Lazy Eyed Junk Collector". At level 10 I became an "Armless Arms Dealer". I just reached level 15 and it says "Double-talking Gangster". I am told that ranks change every 5 levels. Hope my input helps.

Level 1-4: Cloned Club Dancer
Level 5-9: Lazy-Eyed Junk Collector
Level 10-14: Armless Arms Dealer
Level 15-19: Double-talking Gangster
Level 20-24: Trash Compactor Technician
Level 25-29: Sewage Systems Manager

This is for the Dark Side only. I have no idea what they are for the Light Side.
