Tal's Life in UCOM: Chapter One: The Ryshcate Chase
I woke up to the sound of banging on the door of my house. I put on a robe, pulled out my 2-DD Repeating Blaster, and slowly opened the door.
There stood Adenn, in full Beskar'gam. He looked like he would have bust down the door if I hadn't aswered when I did. "Su'cuy, Adenn. Something wrong?"
"Something's wrong all right. Someone broke into HQ."
My eyes widened. I quickly ran back to my room and put on my Beskar'gam, then the two of us drove over to HQ.
As the overseer of HQ, it was almost a second home. I was there almost every day. If someone had broken in, security had been breached. That would mean redoing the whole system, and that we would have to find the person who broke in before he could give whatever he had got from HQ to a contact or something. "Was anythibng stolen?" I asked Adenn.
"Not that we could tell. But it did look like someone tried to access the main computer."
"That would explain how you knew."
"Actually, no. The alarm never went off. Darman happened to be driving past and he saw something inside. when he went to check it out, he saw someone slipping out a window."
Great, the intruder knew how to deactivate the alarms. Another thing I'll have to adjust. "Maybe we should have taken Beviin's suggestion and covered the windows with beskar."
Adenn shook his head. "Nah, Beviin's with intellegence. Intellegence people are always jumpy and untrusting."
I grinned as we pulled up. Then I went into overseer mode. In other words, I had one of my rare serious moments. We went inside. "Is Dar still here?" I asked as I flicked on the lights.
I answered my own question. When I flicked on the light's, Darman and the rest of the vode were standing in the room in front of me. They all shouted, "Happy birthday!" Confetti rained down on me.
I looked at Adenn. He smiled and pushed me forward. There was a giant Ryshcate sitting in the middle of the room, along with a multitude of presents. I looked at it all, and I formed a smile on my face. "Who did this?'
Dar stepped forward. "I did. I thought we could suprise you. And boy, you should of seen the look of suprise on your face!"
"Vor'e, all of you. There's only one thing I can say." I paused. "It's not my birthday."
Jaing frowned. "It's not?"
"No."
Dar looked at me sideways. "But you told me that this was your birthday!"
I grinned. "Did you ever think about the fact that I told you that after you dyed my armor pink? I wanted to get you back. I figured you would try something like this, and I was right. Now I get the Ryshcate and it's not even my birthday. And I'm sure everybody's now mad at you because you dragged them out of bed at oh-two-hundred." I grinned again. "Revenge is sweet. And by the way, Dar, that look of shock fits you."
Darman clamped mouth shut. Then he turned and grabbeb the Ryshcate and threw it in my face. I grabbed it and took out a small hunk with my hand. "Anyone else want some?" Then I tossed the little peice of Ryshcate in the center of the room, then turned and left utter chaos behind me as everybody fought over the Ryshcate.
I climbed into my speeder and sat the Ryshcate down next to me. Suddenly, I felt the barrel of a gun on my neck. "Give me the Ryshcate nice and slowly," said a quiet voice.
It was Taryn. She had gone straight for the sabaac pot instead of fighting over ten credits. I had to hand it to her, she was smart.
Slowly, I reached out for the Ryshcate. As soon as I had it though, I dived over the front of the speeder and onto the street. "Have to catch me first!" I called out to her as I jumped into Ashron's speeder.
I sped into the night, Taryn right behind me.
The story ends with me jumping out of Ashron's speeder as it went down in flames. The Ryshcate blew up, and Taryn decided not to kill me. Together, we went back in my speeder to HQ, where we watched the fight over the tiny peice of Ryshcate. Ryshcate is funny that way.
