Hello and welcome to the third Best Collection Awards ceremony! Tonight we honor the collectors, the hoarders and the accumulators, of the World of Star Wars. These brave fans have been generous in not just showing us their Star Wars collections, but also in the time and effort they have dedicated to entering the awards. We would like to thank all of them, because the entrants are and always will be the heart of the Best Collection Awards.
Just before we begin with the awards, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have made the Best Collection Awards possible. Without these people, there would be no awards at all. Primarily DaveandCate, the originator and patron of the Best Collection Awards. Our secret judging panel has earned deserved praise but for obvious reasons, they cannot be named individually. Thank you for your hard work, judges! We also would like to thank designer Darth Dianthus.
Deserving of our appreciation are the sponsors of the BCA, GalacticBinder, as well as all of the generous prize donors - DaveandCate, DARTH MYLES, Darth Vilgore and Darth Dianthus.
All of our entrants deserve massive applause for their efforts; the quality of their work was outstanding and made judging extremely difficult. Please put your hands together for SHADOWTECH, The Maker, Sgt Kal Skirata, DJ121, DaveandCate, Sebulba7793, Teebo, Jed1 J1m, ThagAndy, Darth Vilgore and Empress Palpatine. You are all wonderfully generous to share your items with us, and your pride in your collections is both evident and obviously deserved.
And now, as the curtain raises, we are ready to begin the awards ceremony proper ...

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
Best Collection Awards
Episode III - June 2008 |
| Oh! There you are. My goodness, what an enormous auditorium. And all the seats are filled. Lovely.
Ahem! Quiet, please. Hello, everyone, and welcome to the third Best Collection Awards ceremony. I am See-Threepio, human-cyborg relations, and I will be your MC for this evening. Tonight we will announce the winners of the six BCA awards, as we honor a long-maligned group of people: Star Wars collectors. These wonderful individuals have single-handedly kept LucasFilm Ltd in business since 1977, and are indeed partly responsible for the popularity of my good self.
So, without any further ado, I will now progress to the awards. The winners of the two publicly-voted Acclaimed Awards will be announced first, then we will move on to the four Adjudged Awards, the winners of which were selected by our knowledgeable and experienced panel.
And now, the first presenter. It is with no small amount of reticence and reluctance that I hand you over to the - rather unsafe - hands of Captain Han Solo. |
Hands up or I will shoot ... first!
Ha ha ha! I'm only kidding, everyone, it's okay. Now, if the golden worrywart has finished that interminable introduction, then I can get started with the first award tonight, which is WORST LEIA SCULPTURE ... how about that, I'd say the worst Leia sculpture is the one I'm married to.
Ha! I kid, honey. You're gorgeous. Here are the entries for Worst Leia Sculpture.
And the winner is ...
Jed1 J1m !
Congratulations, J1m. The public decided that your figure most significantly failed to capture the likeness of Her Royal Princess-ness-ship. J1m cannot be here tonight to accept their award in person, so I will throw straight back to you, professor.
| Er, yes, thank you, captain. Moving right along, ladies and gentlemen and hutts, please welcome the next presenter, Han Solo's right-hand-wookiee and the individual who proves that you don't need more than a bandolier for clothing, Chewbacca. |
Good evening, and well met, everyone. No doubt many of you are surprised, perhaps even startled, to hear me speak. Hitherto-fore my only mode of communication has been growling like a wookiee, leaving most to surmise that I cannot speak basic. That was incorrect, I merely did not wish to speak basic. Why should I? Why can't everyone else learn to speak wookiee?
Anyway, it gives me incredible pleasure to announce the victor of the BEST USE OF A PIECE award. Here are the entries received in this fascinating and strongly-contested award:
All of the entries received votes, and it was a very tight contest in the end between two of the entrants. By a margin of just one vote - oh gosh, how amazing - the winner is ...
Darth Vilgore !
Congratulations, Lord Vilgore. And may I pay my respects to the runner-up Empress Palpatine, a lady so kind, gracious, and accepting in defeat that she would never order the assassination of an innocent, bad-news-bearing wookiee.
Unfortunately, Darth Vilgore cannot be here tonight to accept their award; however I remain certain that their enthusiasm towards, and celebration of, their win are both immense in the extreme.
On behalf of the Best Collection Awards committee, please allow me to personally thank everyone who voted in the public vote. We are most appreciative of your support and assistance in choosing these two winners. See-Threepio?
| Thank you, Mister Chewbacca. And very well said. So, how are you all doing? Is everyone having fun? That's great.
Those were the Acclaimed Awards, voted for by you, the public. Now we progress to the Adjudged Awards, where the secret judging panel of knowledgeable collectors cast their experienced collective eye over the entrants and selected the winner according to the stated criteria for the award in question.
Please put your hands together for our next presenter, the man whose genes are worth millions of credits, the Mandalorian Mauler, the one and only, Jango Fett. |
Always a pleasure to meet a collector.
At least, I thought it would be, but then I finally met one. Pause for laughter. I am here to announce the winner of the award for BEST RECREATION: EPISODE III. I don't like Episode III because I wasn't in it. Wait for applause. Here are the entries:
And our winner tonight is ...
Teebo !
The judges were very impressed with all the entries, and despite the fact that runner-up Sebulba7793 had recreated the coolest scene, in the end Teebo was declared victorious, with positive comments for shot composition and the appearance of motion. Teebo is sadly not here tonight, and therefore is unable to personally collect their award. Oh well, nothing to lose your head over. Hold for laughter. Throw to Threepio.
| Goodness. Where do they find these people?
Moving along promptly in the desperate hope that the last presenter will be forgotten, I now hand you over to our fourth guest, Jedi Master Mace Windu, who for some reason is approaching the podium with an ignited lightsaber. |
The award that I am presenting is for the BEST LOOSE FIGURE COLLECTION. At least I think it is. After mistaking the devil incarnate for a helpful senator, despite my supposed Jedi intuition, I am not sure of much these days. Let us have a look at these entries, shall we?
(I think it is time we inform the floor manager that my ability to read the autocue has diminshed.)
I am reliably informed that this category caused the judges the most consternation. All of the collections were fantastic, showcasing some of the best three-and-three-quarter-inch figures that have ever been released. The final round saw three entrants favored, with the judges almost unable to decide upon the winner. Eventually, one collection emerged as being slightly preferred over the others - for showing both scope and quality - and so, this party was over. The winner (just) was ...
Sebulba7793 !
Congratulations, Sebulba, and please also continue your applause for the two valiant runner-ups, DJ121 (for quantity) and Jed1 J1m (for an awesome vintage collection). Now, Sebulba7793 is not here tonight, so I will accept this award on their behalf. And if they ever want it, they can come and try to get it. Back to you, Chosen One's droid.
| Oh my, he is a scary one! He is on the side of good, and stable, isn't he?
What do you mean, "mostly" ?
I think we had better move on. Our penultimate presenter isn't half the Sith he used to be - Darth Maul! |
At last we will reveal our victor to the public.
At last we will have our BEST LARGE-SCALE STARSHIP award winner.
Entries? | |
There you go. And the winner is ...
(You do not have the envelope yet? Hey? Stretch? How?)
Um ... yeah ... so, how is everyone? Okay? Great. Er ... tonight's entertainment is brought to you by GalacticBinder.com, a comprehensive directory of Star Wars websites.
(Ah, at last, the envelope!) And the winner is ...
DJ121 !
Although both models were very large, and so obviously difficult to put together, the judges' inner children won the day and the LEGO? model was held up as the winner. My head and torso agree with that decision, but my legs are in a different place.
Laugh, or there will be trouble.
| (No, just get him off the stage! Now, please, before he sees me!)
Ah! Phew. Well, ladies, gentlemen, hutts, Jedi, Mandalorians, Zabraks and the various Twi'leks, it is time. Please welcome to the stage the only presenter who can represent the enormous stature and gravity of our final award. I give you His Excellency, the great Jabba the Hutt! |
When I was first asked to present an award tonight, I thought, "Why on Tatooine should I?" Then I remembered that I was no longer a wealthy crime lord, but had been reduced to making public appearances at places willing to pay a C-grade celebrity.
And so, here I am. Let us have a look at the entries for BEST OVERALL COLLECTION (not including carbonite-encased Han Solos).
Wow, they are actually pretty good! I am impressed. To the extent a hutt can be impressed. The judges tell me that this was an incredibly hard decision, and in the end, one vote was the difference.
Three amazing collections. Three entrants who have not won a BCA award previously. Sadly, only one winner is possible, and that winner was ...
The Maker !
Now, before we descend into rapturous acclaim for The Maker, please give it up for our two runners-up who both had extraordinarily impressive entries and who both could easily have been chosen as winner.
SHADOWTECH was noted as having a huge collection, and the shade was particularly appreciated! Sgt Kal Skirata was admired for his impressive collection of modern treasures, particularly the Master Replica items.
But it is The Maker who won by a nose, and who deserves our applause and appreciation. Congratulations, Maker!
| And that is a wrap! Thank you, everyone, for making the third Best Collection Awards evening presentation ceremony such a fantastic success.
All of the winners will be contacted via e-mail tomorrow to organise prizes.
Congratulations to all of them, a big thank you to all of the entrants, and we hope to see all of you next month when we return for ...

Great job Darth Dianthus!
