  1. I didn't realize there was so much drama about rp'ing here. I signed on earlier this year, and then ignored the whole realm until just last month. I've tried to role-play a little, throwing a few phrases in Huttese around, join the super-collectors, talk to people, make a few friends. I'm not sure what you're looking for in role-playing, since it differs for everybody, but I, for one, hope not to see people like yourself give up, just because of a few difficult people...

  2. No, the point is that what people here call rp is crap. You're the one saying that rp isn't for everyone, Nayeli. And you're right as far as this site goes. The "rp" here -- and I use the term very loosely -- isn't for everyone. It's for the lonely and extremely immature.

  3. Okay, you should have made a thread for this, lol. there are many opinions you could consider...
But it seems that the point is basically that rping is not for everyone, you can try though to join a faction or sort of and see how it goes.

  4. Tuskers is right. When the content on this site is good, it really is quite good. Trouble is -- and I've been here from the beginning, too -- that there's a whole lot of bantha poodoo you have to wade through to get to the Krayt dragon pearls.

  5. I'm afraid that I'm not a role player, but I've been on this site from the beginning. Recently I stuck my nose in a forum or two, but I think I'll steer clear again. I like the actual content of the site though, including some really nice discussions. (Like this one.)

  7. Yes, I wouldn't put it out of mind that some of the older crowd may have an equal flair for the dramatic and so forth. I may find good people, but I've found it hard to RP within an overall mess and not entirely worth the time vested effort or even the patience to begin with. I'm still mindfully debating, but I don't want the itch turning into an infected scratch. :-(

I had visited the SWG link before, Brassk, and I noticed that there is a fourteen day trial offer that I may try out. I'll put this note into your blog to further discuss your addiction.

  8. LOL, well it can be disappointing at the beginning, but there are many people who are not full of drama, just try and get to know everyone. And just for the record, the horniest people on the site are not exactly teenagers XD.

  9. Very true. Sadly, the myspace mentality (or should that be "lack of mentality"?) is all to pervasive on the Internet.

As for SWG, I may not be the right person to ask, at least not if you're looking for an objective answer. I'm completely addicted. To answer your questions anyway, though, Laywi, the game itself isn't particularly expensive. You can get The Complete Online Adventures, which includes all three of the expansions, for about $20, and that includes your first month of online membership (I think there are also some in-game gifts that come along with the purchase now, probably a vehicle or something). After that, there's a fee of about $15/month. So really, no more expensive than any other MMORPG.

To answer your last question, that depends on your personality. As I said, I'm addicted, but that's just me. However, that said, although I play a lot, I do have six different characters (all different professions, as you'll see on my blog over the next few weeks), so I'm dividing my time amongst them, essentially making myself part-time at each.

But don't take my biased word on SWG. I know Yahoo frowns on links, but (yahoo be damned!) you can check out some basic info on SWG here:

  10. Don't forget about putting 'lonely' into the mix. I find it sad that most role players can't be more independent instead of being fixated with attention like at an all night Ecstasy rave. I'm guessing it's no different than a typical MySpacer addict that desires online prestige to make up for no life away from the computer.

I'm afraid that you're right. If I do step into the muck, I'll be sure to ignore as required. I won't let it bother me, but rather laugh it off for what it's worth. I'm sure I'll become terminally bored soon enough and just move on to better things out there.

SWG, is it expensive and does it offer a vast playground for roles? I don't really think something like that would be suitable for me as I couldn't devote enough time to make it worthwhile. In your opinion, would that online game be suitable for relatively part-time or would I likely be haplessly addicted?
