The Legend of Creation: The Zanespots

You're back, I see. And you've brought a few new faces? Well, for those not up to date with the tale of how the Force-users of today came to be, I suggest you take a good long look at the history of Creation.

The rest of you, pay attention, there is much still to tell.

We last we met I told you of how Guardian came to create the physical galaxy and the life within it. I told you of Guardian's need for peace-keepers and therefore allowed a select few to touch a fraction of the power that created the galaxy, the power so frequently known as The Force. These beings would eventually come to be the religions we know of as the Jedi, the Sith, and so many other religions, as they each moved off, procreated, and formed their own rules as to how peace was to be achieved.

I can see it in your faces now, many of you can think of only one or two ways to achieve this goal, but I assure you, things such as war, anger, and greed are rarely that simple. Yes, beings with the ability to use the Force made a great difference in the battles fought, but as they grew in number, so did the number of problems between Force-users.

Guardian was tired from creating the galaxy and too frustrated with the continued pettiness of its sentient occupants go on playing referee. If they would fight no matter what was done, then Guardian would go into hibernation and wait for cooler heads and a more enlightened time to prevail.

You foolish creatures! Do you image that a being capable of creating a galaxy--a universe, even--would simply curl up in a cave somewhere and fall asleep? Such power over time and space must be protected. The only true protection for Guardian's power as to divide it.

Again, you doubt me. Because you cannot do such a thing, you do not believe it possible? Can you create a moon? Can you change simple darkness into a sun or a rock or a tree? Can you dictate the rotation of planets? No. Of course you cannot. But Guardian did. And Guardian could choose to become three then nine.

Guardian split first into three equal parts, bringing forth three individuals to take possession of that third. But one third of Guardian's total power is far too much for any mortal being or group of beings to control. So Guardian again split, each third becoming three pieces, each holding the power of a period of time.

Guardian's chosen nine were picked from the most responsible, most thoughtful of the Force-users. To each one was given a fraction of Guardian's power. These nine were called Zanespots, a name taken from a language of the time.

Three Zanespots, one from each group of three, was given the ability to see through time and look into the past. Three others held Guardian's ability to see through space and know what was happening at that very moment. The final three were allowed to know the future. Each power could give great insight, but each had its own drawback.

The Zanespots of the past could only know what had been. They could do nothing to change history.

The Zanespots of the present could know only about that very moment, not what would come or what had happened, but they held the ability to act on what they saw.

The Zanespots of the future could see only what would happen without the interference of a Zanespot. Their every action would change the future, for good or bad.

In these groups of three--one of future, one of present, and one of past--each known as a Tri, were sent out into the galaxy, charged with protecting Guardian above all else. Each set up a building, a base of operation. Separately the individuals could do much, but together, in their Tri, they shared their power and all could see everything.

Many chose to wonder, sharing knowledge with others, but the day came when the greedy eyes turned on the Zanespot and their slaughter began. This was when the power of the Zanespot was first reincarnated. Though the body of the Zanespot could die, the power could not. Instead, Guardian's power was transferred to the next Force-sensitive being to be created, no matter where in the galaxy either death or conception happened.

To prevent the need to search out and teach new Zanespots, the three Tri-s went into hiding. Though the frequently worked discreetly with various groups, they were far from the celebrities they had once been or could be.

Then came Palpatine, then Jedi Purge, bringing with it a desperate Sith's need to destroy all who could possibly challenge him.

You will ask, I am sure, why extermination of the Zanespot was chosen above perhaps conversion. They could surely be a great asset even to the Emperor. The problem is that the Zanespots, like Guardian, cannot physically be of the Light or Dark Side. They each live in both, yet are fully in neither.

In times such as those, when Palpatine rose up an began his regime plagued as much by mass extermination as tyrannical rule, perhaps it was wrong for the Zanespots not to immediately call Guardian back, as only they could, but time would have them always short their necessary completeness.

And now, you ask, where are the Zanespots and Guardian now? I wish I could tell you that. Their locations are unknown even to me. Now go, you disbelieving little creatures. Telling you things you should already know drains me. Maybe next time I will tell you of the Calenandon, the most powerful living Force-user.

Now go. I need my rest.
