The Matukai Order
Matukai Organizational Information Title of Leader: Master Adept Leos Categaern Other Positions: Adept Apprentice Headquarters: Aridus Affiliated Governments/Organizations: None Beliefs: Holy Texts Matukai Code Relics/Artifacts: Wan-shen Historical Information Founder: Kravoss II Date of Collapse: 19 BBY The Matukai were an ancient organization of Force adepts who used the physical body to channel the Force. The balance of the physical and spiritual was the cornerstone of their philosophy. Strenuous exercises and meditation allowed even those with a weak Force connection to maximize their abilities and connection with the Force. Their robes, which were similar to Jedi ones (apart from their green and white coloring), were designed to help achieve this balance. They would also be distinguished from others by a tattoo that decorated their foreheads and covered parts of their eyes. This philosophy is believed to have originated between the eras of the Great Sith War and the First Jedi Purge. The Matukai began with a woman from Karvoss II who was a student of martial arts and discovered her sensitivity to the Force while performing meditation. She would later teach those Force-sensitive students of her techniques and the group gradually grew larger until it reached its limit of sixty individuals. The Jedi Order displayed a passing interest in the organization but never interfered as the majority of the group were too old for training in the ways of the Jedi. Furthermore, the numbers of the Matukai never went above the core sixty followers taught by the founder of the group, which made their numbers too few. Like most Force-based organizations at the time, the Matukai would suffer heavily during the days of the Great Jedi Purge at the conclusion of the Clone Wars, though many managed to hide and survive. Late in the era of the New Republic, some Matukai joined Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order. They would do so because they found Skywalker's teachings to be far more open and flexible compared to those of the Jedi of old. Abilities The Matukai discovered several unusual techniques through their unique study of the Force. Many of these abilities are internal to the adept, with the Force being likened to the fire of a smith?s forge, and the body as the rough metal. The Matukai learned to purge illness and poison from their bodies, and even become immune to them altogether. They could raise or lower their body temperature to survive in hot or cold environments, or even cause their skin to become so hot as to burn anything they touched. Advanced practitioners could even harden their skin to protect themselves from damage. The Force was also used to aid in crafting their signature weapon: the Wan-shen, a formidable and quite unusual bladed pole arm. Each Wan-shen is unique and bears patterns etched into the blade to symbolize things important to it's creator and most can be broken down into easily stored pieces. However, only trained users can properly whirl it around their bodies using themselves as a central axis, others must simply swing it like a heavy staff or ax. General informations The Matukai are a group of Force users that have a much different philosophy than the Jedi or the Sith. They strictly use their own body as the focal point of the Force instead of an inanimate object. Through meditative martial arts and strenuous exercise, they seek to strengthen their bond with the Force. Many have found that, even with very weak force sensitivity, they can enhance that sensitivity and become masters though it takes many years of hard work. Powers Typical powers of the Matukai are similar of some of the powers that the Sith and Jedi use to enhance their bodies. Matukai are capable of jumping higher and moving faster as well as improving their reflexes. They are also capable of reducing damage and even healing themselves to some extent and are masters of their body. Those that become masters are able to harden their bodies to the point where they take little or no damage and feel no pain. Matukai are so in tune with their bodies that they become very aware of every illness, wound, and even poisons that have afflicted them. Many have found that they can force the wounds closed or remove the toxic poisons from their body through the Force and their own will. MATUKAI CODE Through exercise, discover the Force. Through the Force, discover tranquility. Through tranquility, discover vitality. The Matukai code is quite simple to understand, unlike the Codes of the Jedi or Sith. The first line, ?Through exercise, discover the Force?, is the most basic idea of the Matukai. It is also the hardest to accomplish. Through exercise and meditative martial arts, one must discover their connection to the Force. The second line, ?Through the Force, discover tranquility?, is much simpler. It basically means to find peace and avoid the dark side. The third and final line; ?Through tranquility, discover vitality?, means that, when you are at peace, your body will be in harmony and will make you healthy and strong. Weapons The Matukai construct a weapon called a wan-shen when they graduate from apprentice to adept. This weapon is a polearm with a short, single blade on one end and serves as their focal point for their abilities. The weapon, much like a lightsaber, tends to be decorated and crafted according to the adept's tastes and preferences. Many make collapsable or seperative shafts for ease of concealment and transportation as the wan-shen tends to be around 2 meters in length. Masters of this weapon are capable of swinging it around their bodies and attacking with incredible speed and ability. Because it is made with the use of the Force, many wan-shen staves and their blades are capable of resisting lightsabers. Though the majority of the Matukai use Wan-shen, three members have been known to use lightsabers. Those members are Leos, Mairi, and Raven D'yrii. Training The Matukai have a strict training regime that involves martial arts slowed down to be meditative. They also meditate for extended periods of time while holding a physically demanding pose to increase their connection with the Force as well as using enduring exercises as well. Leaders The Matukai are governed by a few select members. To gain a leading position, a person must have achieved the rank of Adept and be proven capable, intelligent, and wise. The current leaders are Iyonna Vell, Antos Torrall, and Leos Categaern. Others may sit in on their meetings, but only during certain occasions where it is warranted. Members The current members of the Matukai Order are: Leos Categaern (Firrerreo, Master Adept) Mairi Categaern (Firrerreo, Apprentice) Raven D'yrii (Human, Apprentice) Antos Torrall (Yashuhvi Human, Master Adept) Iyonna Vell (Twi'lek, Adept) Sasha (Human, Apprentice) Ren Anami (Human, Apprentice) Savik Anami (Human, Apprentice) History The Matukai phylosophy dates back millenia, to the time between the Great Sith War and the Light and Darkness War. A woman from Kravoss II is believed to have started the group by first discovering her own Force Sensitivity through martial arts and meditation. She would go on to teach her techniques to force sensitive students, many who were turned away from the Old Jedi Order because of their age. The Jedi had a passing interest in the group, but never directly interfered or allied with it. Eventually, the group would, like many other Force Organisiations, suffer many losses due to Order 66 and the Great Jedi Purge. Some managed to survive and enter hiding. Rebirth Leos, a knight of the group known as the Brotherhood of the Twilight, encountered ancient texts and data about a group known as the Matukai during his travels. As he researched the data, he came to appreciate the ideals of the group. He continued to study the data, and actively searched for additional information despite serving as part of the Commonwealth of Allied System's military. Eventaully, he decided that it was a shame for the group to cease existance, and decided that, when the time was right, he would attempt a revival. With advice from his uncle Bizzy Hunt, Leos settled on Aridus, a harsh desert planet with heavy ionization in the atmosphere. There, he built a large monastery where he could train others. Due to the Force providing dreams to Antos Torrall, Antos and his small group of Matukai searched for Leos, which the dream hinted as the person who would revive the group. Eventaully they found him and offered to assist in the revival. Leos accepted their help, seeing it as a way to lessen the burden of leadership as well as a way to learn more The Matukai Code philosophy Through exercise, discover the Force. There are many forms of exercise. Some are relaxing while others are strenuous. I include meditation as an exercise, since one must keep both the body and mind strong. As one learns the forms of a chosen exercise, especially those involving repititions, the mind quiets and becomes clear. We don't lose any sense of our body as we tone and strengthen within the parameters of the chosen exercise. As one allows the body to go through the motions, almost on autopilot, our minds open. Here the Force awakens and flows into and through us. Everything is energy. Th Force flows and strengthens our spiritual aspect as we perform an exercise that strengthens our physical aspect. Through the Force, discover tranquility. Within the Force, there is strength and power and yet there is a feeling of calmness. As the Force flows, we become tranquil. There is a subtle difference between tranquility and peacefulness. Peacefulness is passive. Tranquility is calm, but with the capacity to do whatever is necessary. For example, picture a lake. The surface ripples with motion, but is calm. Beneath the surface of this lake is a world where living organisms live, die, eat or be eaten, engage in sex and yet it is still tranquil. Another example would be your own body. If our body was peaceful, any invading organism could wreak havoc and sicken or kill us. However, our body has defences that act accordingly, tranquilly; doing whatever is necessary. Through tranquility, discover vitality. As we exercise and become more open to the Force, our body and minds are strengthened. As a result we become tranquil; calm yet capable of doing whatever is necessary. We discover and gain vitality. Vitality in most "Oriental" practices is known as ch'i, ki, or prana. Vitality is both physical and mental. Vitality is our ability to live, it is what separates the living from the non-living. Vitality gives us the ability to move, live, survive and endure all that life can throw at us. |
