I'm Luke Lars--I'm here to rescue you!

You're WHO???

Why didn't Owen and Beru change Luke's last name?

This is a question that has been asked for as long as I can remember. While we may never know.....perhaps the Maker himself doesn't have an answer....here is MY take on the answer to this age-old question:

There could be several factors in this:

1) The Emperor believed Padmé had died before giving birth, so he wouldn't have known there was even a child of Anakin's to look for. (perhaps the Emperor only learned of Luke's existence after the destruction of the first Death Star)

2) Obi-Wan thought Anakin was dead, therefore, HE wouldn't be looking for him. Plus Obi-Wan was there to keep a watchful eye on the boy. (BUT he does find out Vader is alive in The Rise of Darth Vader)

3) Tatooine is remote and not under the direction of the Empire, so Luke would be well hidden. (and that's why Yoda told Obi-Wan to take Luke there) After all, look how long Yoda kept himself hidden. Remote planets DO have their advantages.

4) Luke was never formally adopted by his aunt and uncle, whereas Leia WAS adopted by Bail Organa and his wife, thus giving her their last name. Also, Bail was a political figure and well known throughout the galaxy. It was imperative that Leia have her identity hidden.

5) Luke Lars just doesn't sound like a hero's name. Skywalker just rolls off the tongue. Try it.
**Skyyyy-walkkkerrr**. :p

6) Owen and Beru didn't know Luke's father's TRUE identity, only that he was a war hero and a Jedi Knight, AND somewhat of a free spirit. Maybe that's what Beru meant by the comment: "He has too much of his father in him." THAT'S what Owen was afraid of, not that he would fall under the influence of the Dark Side of the Force.

And besides, when Obi-Wan found out Vader was still alive, did he run and tell the Larses Luke's father was alive? Probably not. He probably sat on that little bit of information. Especially the part about him being rebuilt into some sort of cyborg and living in a life support suit flying around the galaxy killing the people that got in the way of the main mission in life with just his thoughts.........

Okay, so I got a little carried away with that last one, but think about it. Any one of these factors could have been in play. So next time you ask yourself the question "Why didn't they change Luke's last name?" think about it.

You know I'm right.

  4. LS did not write this blog post. It was originally posted on the Star Wars Blogs by GalacticBabe. The URL is http://blogs.starwars.com/kathysthoughts/71

It is OK to borrow someone's writing, but you have to give the original author credit, not pawn it off as your own. That is plagiarism.

LS even went so far as to thank someone who commented that it was a nice post.

Plagiarism is intolerable, and I am alerting all involved.

Furthermore, LS has plagiarized before, including tings I have written.
