Invincible Audio Book

In previous posts, I had mentioned I don't buy hardcover books because of the cost (as well as the bulkiness), so it is a little hypocritical of me to have bought the audio book for Invincible (I had intended to wait for the paperback).

That being said, I am a big fan of audio books in general, and I had to go on a road trip for a job interview. I figured, why not. A really cool thing about Star Wars audio books is that they include Star Wars scores from the movies as well as Star Wars sound effects, so you almost get that movie feel as you here lightsaber noises during a fight scene. On the other hand, Star Wars audio book are always abridged. Abridged audio book bug the crap out of me. I never understood why they would not have unabridged Star Wars audio books.

So I did not get the entire story, but most of it--particularly the most important parts, which in themselves were cool. Plus, I will have no choice but to buy the Invincible paperback when it comes out, so I can find out what I missed.

As for the story itself, I happened to think it was excellent. I was totally engaged the whole time, and I did not want it to end. That, to me, is the sign of a good book. I thought it was all pulled together well, and the end was set up very nicely. It was also a very tight. Very well done. Possible my favorite in the series...but I'll have to hold that judgment until I read the full text.

I also really liked the Young Jedi Knight excerpts, but that was an aspect of the audio book version that they chopped down considerably. In any case, I now want to read the YJK series (I've actually already started to).

  1. I didn't want to get the hardcover either. So I got the audio book instead. I decided that I was going to get the paperback when it comes out. Also, I've started on the Yuong Jedi Knights series. I've read the first four books and the eleventh (when I got the eleventh I had no idea it was in a series).

  2. Some people don't like the YJK series because they are rather childish. While not as good as what Jude Watson has done in Jedi Apprentice, these books are still fun and light hearted. Plus, you find out more about Jacen and Jaina.
    Happy reading!
