And so they have met ... a long time ago.

Battlefield

Aeron jerked the TIE's stick to bounce out of the line of fire of the three fighters glued on her tail. Just seconds earlier she was clear and chasing her enemy and now she was the target herself. Her wing mate was already shot earlier and managed to eject before his craft exploded. He was hanging somewhere in space, waiting for his rescue in the middle of the fight.

Her squadron mates were busy themselves and dodging for their own safe return.

She kind of was on her own for the time being.

Suddenly a dozen of tactical fighter contacts sprayed themselves over Aeron's aft sensor screens. They were indicated as friendly.

"Get clear, Shadows. They are ours now. Distar Lead out," crackled over her comm. system.

What? Who? Aeron was confused. She still fought with getting rid of those three buggers on her tail and had no time to check from where those Distars came from. Red laserbolt lightened her co.ckpit as they passed over and beside her craft.

Fierfek that was close!!

With a "blip" on her aft display one of the red dots disappeared. "I've got you, Shadow eleven. Break on my mark left. Three, two, mark."

Without thinking twice she did as requested and not a split second too late as she saw laser bolts slice through space just deserted by her.

The other two dots were gone.

"Thank you, Distar. I owe you," she told her saviour.

"No problem, Shad, see you on board the Reverse. Now get clear, we'll handle that."

What the hell? I am not a newb anymore. Co.cky little-

Before she could finish the thought her comm. cracked again, "Eleven, we are ordered back to the hangar, so form up behind me and we head back. Lead out."

Aeron maneuvered her craft toward the squad leader and had time to observe the battle. With the new squadron also a Star Destroyer had arrived in system to support the one she was stationed at. With the new force they outnumbered the pirates, at least they had been told they were.

The enemy's ships exploded one after the other. The new arrives certainly did know of their job. They danced through space and around the destructive light.

She wondered if they had offered peace to the pirates, or rather a give-up. Then again they just had reduced her squadron to a quarter of its size. Her mates had been killed in this battle.

She felt a bang of pain in her heart. They were gone and she was thinking of them having offered peace.

I've got you. Get clear. echoed in her mind, this voice etched into it. He had saved her life without knowing her. She did not even know whom she had to thank. He said they would see each other onboard the ship.

Meanwhile she had caught up with Shadow lead and formed up as his second wing. She followed him toward the Star Destroyer. On their way they stayed out of the fight. A look on her display showed her just 5 remaining ones of the Shadow squadron.

Just five out of twelve. Fierfek - we really did badly.

Right away she couldn't even say how many of them went EV or really have been shot. She hoped that they were told as soon as they were in the hangar and back on ground.

Fail aimed shots from afar sizzled past her canopy, in the distance rather harmless for her shielded craft.

Quickly they arrived in the hanger and she landed her ship in her assigned port.

Angrily she pulled her helmet off. Her hair was tousled even with the ribbon which had fixed them on the back of her head. She straightened them and let them fall open and down her back.

The helmet in her hand she swung down onto the deck. She looked around and caught up with her leader.

She was sitting in the briefing room. Several hours after the battle there was supposed to be a debriefing on the outcome of the battle. Also the squads of the other Star Destroyer were joining them, so the room was filled to the last spot.

Somewhere was this guy with this nice voice who had saved her butt from being shot out of the galaxy.

I might never find him here.

She felt kind of disappointed by that. She would have loved to match a face to the voice and to know who he was, this guy from Distar squadron. Not even his call sign or number she knew. Though he did know hers - maybe he was looking for her?

Stop this wishful thinking, silly girl.

She sat down among her remaining squadron mates. Just seven of them had made it, and from those, two are in a bacta tank at the moment.

She had no real interest to chat with her mates and stayed quiet most of the time. Her gaze was roaming the room, looking for the mysterious saviour of hers. Would she only know what he looked like. At least she remembered his voice but in a chatty room like that it would be impossible to make it out.

The commander stepped into the room and the chatter died down slowly.

"Ladies and Gentlebeings the pirates have left for now. On board the Reserve we have three additional squadrons, a loan from the Star Destroyer Bad Wolf coming to our support in the previous battle.
"They will stay onboard for a couple of days till repairs and clean-ups are done. The reason for that? Well, what would it help to speak nicely. Our squadrons had been reduced badly due to-" he interrupted himself.
"A list of-" he stopped again, "a list is... is uploaded in the system."
The commander pauses a third time waiting for the rising chatter to die down again.
"To the new roster, Distar Squadron will be split to fill up the open places in the Shadow and Ghost Squadron. This solution is in effect till new members have arrived to fill up the home squadrons."

"And when will that be?" someone asked.

The voice caught Aeron's attention. It sounded like the one from the comm. The co.cky one who saved her backside. She let her gaze wander through the room hoping to find out who just had spoken. Wasn't that hard since she wasn't the only who had turned her attention to the pilot.

She didn't know what she had expected. He was rather handsome - brown hair that looked a bit ruffled, dark eyes, his pale skin contrasting to the black overall.

"We have no time schedule yet, though it shouldn't be longer than a couple of days," was the commander's answer.

"That is a very accurate answer," the brown haired man muttered under his breath causing a low rumble of laughter to erupt.

She managed to overhear that and didn't fail to notice that he wasn't very impressed being stuck on a ship just saved from an onslaught. She might not be either.

After a couple more instructions the debriefing was over. Everyone rose and left the room chattering. Aeron followed her mates but was stopped by a hand falling on her shoulder.

"Shadow Eleven, right?" asked his a voice behind her. She swirled around, her long black hair brushing across his lean figure.

"Who wants to know that," she shot back, her eyes catching his. Right away she regretted her rather harsh words. "Sorry, fighter Ace. That was a bit harsh. Anyway since you seem to know who I am, who are you?"

He grinned down at her, "Got a bit fire in you, huh? Well, we have met earlier, I got your back-"

"Yeah I remember, thanks for the help but I wouldn't have needed it. I would have managed."

"Sure girl, never said anything different. Now that we have settled that, care for a drink fighter Ace?"

Before she was able to respond, he had his hand on the small of her back and guiding her out. "Before we ruffle any more feathers tonight. That was brilliant flying outside. You've seen the tactics earlier, and I thought based on that..." he trailed off and grinned again at her.

"So based on that ... yes?" Now she had to grin too.

"Yah see, gotta know a girl who has some fire in her, if you don't mind of course? So, after a drink yah still can dump me. By telling me about the super hero boyfriend you have somewhere up your sleeve." He winked, his brown eyes sparkling with amusement.

"Actually, you are right, my man may not be impressed about me heading off with the first fighter Ace I meet up with in space." She pulled a rather serious face and tried to keep it straight.

"Yeah well ... I hope he doesn't pick a fight then. But just one little drink?"

"You are lucky. Mister who still hasn't told me his name, that he is on duty tonight! So, he might not wipe the floor with your ... tonight." She had to laugh now.

"How lucky am I then, Shad Eleven? You didn't tell me your name either. Mine is Tuskers."

"Aeron, I am Aeron. Nice to meet you, fighter Ace. Let?s get a drink then, in celebration for today and for shooting some fighters off my tail." She still grinned, amused.

"The pleasure is all mine, it is not often I have a chance to go for a drink with a nice lady, especially one I just saved."

"Why fighter Ace, are the dear ladies scared of you?"

"Of course not, or maybe they are. I have never asked them."

"So you often save ladies from certain death just to take them out for a drink? And now, I got you."

She thought she saw a hint of red appearing on his cheeks.

"Uhh-"

"Never mind," Aeron interrupted him, for during their conversation they had reached the cantina. "What do you want," she asked him. "I mean the least I can do is to pay for the first drink."

His eyebrows shot up when she said "first". "So you do not intend to dump me after the first one?"

"Now you've gotten me. You are funny, and I just might talk with you over a second drink as well."

"Maybe we can squeeze a dance between the first drink and the second?" He asked, his brown eyes bore into her green.

"You're demanding, my dear. Not only drinks but also a physical work out on the dance floor? You better be good," she winks at him but nods.

"Great! Okay, what yah have?"

"Coffee," she shot back.

"That doesn't count as a drink, but you shall have it."

"Are there any guidelines as to what does or does not count as a drink? Or are you making it up as you go along?"

"A drink is usually a bit stronger than coffee."

"I prefer my coffee strong," her eyes sparkle with amusement. "And as I said, first round on me ... so, you rather tell me what you gonna have, Ace?"

"Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster," came the immediate answer.

"The best drink in the galaxy if you believe those rumours."

"Those aren't just rumours."

"You never stop to learn," she grins and turns to get their beverage.

After a couple of minutes she returned to their tiny table located near a wall with the drinks in her hand.

"Thought you were going to let me stay here while you amuse yourself with your friends about the stupid Ace you just dumped," he greeted her teasingly.

"Nearly, but I took pity on you so I returned," she answered in the same tone.

"Ouch," his hand reached to his heart, "that hurt."

Aeron nearly spit out the coffee she just had drunk, holding back the laugh. "Aww," she said. "But I am here now, and my friends are the ones being dumped, pretty one," she grinned at him.

"You're a tease," he told her.

"As are you."

He took a nip from his drink. "How is this Blaster Gargle thing?" she asked curious. He laughed.

"Not Blaster Gargle thing, got that wrong, Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster-"

"You gonna offer me a sip on it?" she interrupted him cheeky.

"Why aren't you saying you want one?"

"Thought I just did," she grinned at him and took the glass out of his hand. She took a sip of the exotic drink while keeping eye contact the whole time.

"Mhh ... not so bad," she licked from her lips the last remaining traces of the liquid. "Know now why you like this stuff." His eyes followed her tongue as it slid over her lips. Aeron noticed that and smiled.

A pulsing beat took over from the soft strains that were playing earlier. Aeron gave Tuskers his drink back, "finish up, Ace. You're gonna dance with me, as you have requested earlier."

"What's with your coffee?" he wondered.

"You'd have to put restraints on me to stop me inhaling it," Aeron giggles. She had emptied her coffee earlier already.

"I see," with one gulp he drained his glass and then held out his hand for her, "Sweet lady, may I have the honour of this dance?" He gallantly asked.

"You may, dear Sir," She took the offered hand and let him guide them on the dance floor.

Aeron swayed her hips to the music. She laid her arms around his neck, bringing her body into contact with his. She smiled up at him, and that was all encouragement he needed to lay his hands on the small of her back. Together they danced to the rhythm of the music.

Time passed unnoticed while they danced, conscious of only their bodies moving together to music which changed occasionally. Her eyes met his now and then, nearly getting lost in their passionate depths.

She did not know or care how much time had passed when he dared to dip down his head, brushing his lips lightly against hers.

The soft contact took nearly her breath away and her heartbeat quickened.

Was this just imagination?

Her green orbs searched his face and saw him smiling down at her. Aeron smiled back and licked her lips, tasting him on them.

It wasn't just a figment of her imagination. This was real.

She pulled him down and placed a quick kiss on the corner of his mouth.

Tuskers turned his head and whispered into her ear, "We gonna find a place more... private?"

Not trusting her voice she just nodded.

He guided her out of the club, his hands on her hips and toward his room.
