Memories of old Marvel Star Wars comics...
Looking at one of the button-links on this page today, there's one about Marvel comic covers... yeah, I used to have one of them (no. 70, the one with Han and gang in the ANH outfit)... I just CAN'T remember what the story was about. Anyone out there wants to jog my memory?
My collection of Marvel SW comics has disappeared along with all of my Marvel Indiana Jones comics (complete set of Indy from #1 to #38... or was it #32?). Yes, I grieved... sobs. They helped me with my English (my teachers loved my out-of-this-galaxy essays) and my Art classes. That was about 20 years ago... now I have a short circuit in my memory... I can't remember the names of the wonderful artists behind the comics! I used to copy their work. All over my school books, burning the midnight oil (and feigning sleep when my mother wandered into my room, wondering why the oil was still burning at midnight when the occupant's already asleep)... I miss those comics...
And yes, they were cheap those days... it was RM1.80 per comic. My mother was so worried I would flunk my exams, reading comics instead of school books, she hid my entire collection. Being the rebel, I just buy the next comic that came out and rebuild my collection. Eventually she let me have the first batch... AFTER my exams ended that is... I passed. I didn't fail any subjects. I got A for English. (no, English is not my first language). I think should I have failed my exams, my mom would have burned my comics along with my good self... cringe!
Was Cynthia Martin one of the Marvel SW comic artist towards the end of the series? I may have her name wrong. But I like her style... I think that's where I learned how to draw Han's boots...
I remembered one comic (no. 100?) where every pilot had to take a test on computers (something like a simulated driving license test), and Han and Luke failed. Han because he flew un-conventionally , and Luke because he used the Force, which the computer can't compute.
And another one, where there're 4 teenaged Zeltron boys (pink skinned humans, who love to have fun). They were accompanying Leia to a diplomatic ball. They got Leia to go to sleep (because she was soooo stressed). When Leia woke up, she found that they'd made up her hair... or more like they'd let down her hair!... and they'd put her only gown to the ball to be so full of holes, er, refashioned her dress to be very, um, sexy... so unlike Leia... Han was walking to fetch her and saw what the Zeltrons have done and he went "Uh, oh..." I remembered copying that Han walking...
The Marvel comics never made it to Han's and Leia's wedding. I wonder if Han and Leia ever had their wedding in an official comic? I know Luke and Mara had thiers in one... I think it was under Dark Horse...
I miss those comics... and I miss the cheap prices...
