Suggestions
I was on another site and was reviewing a list of "Star Wars" books and a thread with a lot of people asking for recommendations and offering suggestions. So, I gave my thoughts on how to go about initiating one's self into the exciting world of "Star Wars" novels. Here they are for all of you:
For the people asking what books are worth reading, let me cast a couple votes. I've not read all the books yet, but I'm still reading and some of these recommendations are based on my own experience with the reading order (both failures and successes).
First of all, I think anyone interested in what happens after the movies should read "The Courtship of Princess Leia." If you're not familiar with the happenings of the expanded universe, I think this is probably the first major event that happens after the movies and I personally enjoy the read a lot--though I've heard some dissenters.
If you're interested in what becomes of the Jedi, perhaps already know a bit about the lives of the characters from the original trilogy after the events of the movies and want to dig in with a good read, I would recommend "The Jedi Academy Trilogy." As a side note, if you're more technically minded, "I, Jedi" takes place during the events of this trilogy but from a different perspective and is much more sci-fi-ish (that is, it speaks in more technical language than the space fantasy "The Jedi Academy Trilogy").
Finally, if you already know a bit about what happens in "The Courtship of Princess Leia" and "The Jedi Academy Trilogy," or if you're a young adult reader that just wants a brief catch up and doesn't mind some fairly large spoilers, the "Young Jedi Knights" series is amazing. Even though the series is written for younger audiences, it's still one of my favorites for a number of factors (though I admit to nostalgia being a part).
I hope this helps,
Han Braakan
