SithLord Kun's Profile »
Exar Kun The Final Chapter
Influence
Exar Kun was a master of lightsaber combat; in fact, one of the greatest in Jedi history, sometimes fighting with two blades at once. In his duel with Master Baas, he also evinces ability with the Jar'Kai style. The creation of the double-bladed lightsaber, often mistakenly attributed to Darth Maul, was in actuality Kun's brainchild. In addition to being able to adjust the length of the blade, Kun altered its intensity as he saw fit. He crafted his fearsome double-bladed blue saber later in his life. Kun's ingenuity served as a source of inspiration for later Sith, and in a few rare cases, Jedi and Dark Jedi, to create their own double-bladed lightsabers. Most of these other users, however, based their creation on Darth Maul's modified weapon, which instead of being a single hilt length design with two aperture ports, was essentially two full-size lightsabers built into a single hilt. Other notable wielders of the double-bladed lightsaber included Bastila Shan, Zez-Kai Ell, Darth Bandon, Jorak Uln, Lord Kas'im, Uthar Wynn, Darth Maul, and Azrakel the Dark Warrior. This weapon was also very popular with the Sith during Darth Revan's Jedi Civil War. Kun's legacy was shown in the PC and Xbox game Knights of the Old Republic where he was referred to many times by different characters.
Innovation
Exar Kun's technical innovation is still present in later periods in the Star Wars universe. Lightsabers function on the principle of a closed energy loop, and with skill the builder can achieve a level of power efficiency that is unheard of in other technical devices. While most lightsabers channel the necessary energy from the power cell to the primary focusing crystal, as well additional refining gems, focusing generators, and then finally to the emitter plate or matrix and back again, Exar Kun devised a way in which his weapon contained a primary power cell and only one set of lightsaber crystals. There still exist two emitter plates, but Kun created a method in which only a single set of gems are used to create two beams. This is supported by the ability to alter its intensity settings and adjust its length for each or a single blade (a function usually reserved for multiple crystal assemblies on one blade). Due to this level of innovation, his development of these technologies is unsurpassed even four thousand years after his physical death.
