Jedi Force Powers
Jedi Padawan
Force Speed was a Force power that allowed the user to maintain sprinting speeds (even moving in awkward directions like backwards) for a brief time. Greater aptitude granted greater boosts to speed and/or greater duration. The power also apparently enabled the user to run for extended distances with no visible signs of fatigue.
Force Cloak, also known as Force Camouflage, was, unsurprisingly, a rarely seen Force ability.
Force Concealment was a power that was used by highly skilled Force-sensitives to mask their Force alignment (Light or Dark), their ability to use the Force, or even their entire presence from other Force sensitives. See also Qey'tek
Force Sense was one of the most basic Force abilities for a Jedi. It could be used to feel another being's feelings, the future, ripples in the Force caused by momentous or traumatic events, impending danger and the presence of the dark side. A concentrated, directed form of this ability was likely how Jedi were able to see others without relying on their physical senses. Yoda could even use this power to feel the deaths of individuals and identify them.
Farseeing or far sight is the ability to gain vague impressions of events happening in other places or times using the Force. These visions focus on strong imagery and emotions. The future is always in motion, however, and is thus subject to change. Jedi and Sith skilled in this technique are capable of detecting when friends and apprentices are in danger, examining details of past events, and predicting the probable outcome of a stated course of action.
Force Empathy was a Force power related to Force Sense, but involving picking up impressions and traces of information about the object touched and the events that have surrounded it. The Kiffar were able to use this power, and, particularly, Quinlan Vos was skilled with its use.
Force Sight or Force Seeing was a basic Force ability, perhaps related to Force Sense. It enhanced the bearer's visual and spatial perception even in the dark or behind walls. 'Seeing' with the Force was a useful skill for as Obi-Wan Kenobi said, "Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them". Trained users could have their sight amplified and were able to counter Force Persuasion and Force Blinding powers.
Force Jump used the Force to augment the user's natural leaping ability. Force users adept in this technique could perform awe-inspiring vertical/horizontal leaps with impunity. The user could leap tremendous distances when combining this technique with that of Force Speed.
Force Pull was a telekinetic ability using the Force that could cause a material body to draw close to the caster. The greater the user's aptitude with this, the heavier the object that could be pulled or the more wide arc or radius of the Force "wave."
Force Push was the ability to create a telekinetic impulse via the Force, launching a concussive burst of pressurized air-not unlike the blast of an archaic 'pipe bomb'-that would impact a target with enough force to knock it over, launch it into the air, or even (particularly in the case of fragile materials such as ceramics) shatter it into pieces. The greater the user's telekinetic aptitude, the larger the pressure differential, and thus the stronger the effect and the heavier the target. With practice, a skilled Force user could increase the range and arc of the blast without lowering the average kinetic energy, creating a blanketed wave instead of a focused impulse. Truly gifted practitioners could generate a concussive blast that would radiate from them for dozens of meters in all directions, detonating with the force of a conventional explosive.
Telepathy was the very basic ability to mentally communicate over small or vast distances with other individuals. Every Force user, Jedi or Sith, was able to use it. The range of telepathy itself is theoretically infinite, but the telepath must be able to sense the presences of those they wish to contact. Thus, communicating with non-Force-sensitives became nearly impossible over distances greater than a handful of kilometers, and the typical upper limit for Force-sensitives was approximately 1,000 kilometers. However, individuals who are siblings, lovers, or lifelong friends, or who were once master and apprentice, have been known to communicate across ranges far longer than that, and, in extreme cases (such as the twin bond between Jacen and Jaina Solo), the link is apparently limitless.
Animal Friendship, also referred to as Beast Control or Beast Trick, was the Force ability to calm an animal. Once calmed, the animal would be tamed enough to be ridden or to simply remain calm.
Droid Disable was a Force power developed during the Old Sith Wars. Droid Disable allowed a Jedi to cause a droid to short-circuit. Master Arca Jeth discovered the technique during the Great Droid Revolution, which allowed the Jedi to deactivate the droid army of HK-01. This power was also known during the Jedi Civil War and was later used by Luke Skywalker
Force Healing or Health, was a power that used the Force to accelerate the natural healing process rapidly.
Plant Surge was a light side Force power that was based around the channeling of life energy into plants, allowing the user to improve the plant's rate of growth and even affect the manner in which it grows. In battle, the ability to control a plant's growth could be used to cause plants to grow with incredible speed directly under the user's control, causing plant life to grow and twist around opponents, ensnaring anyone who wasn't quick enough to avoid it. Once ensnared, the victim would find it difficult to dodge and fight, and nearly impossible to move unless they escaped through force or finesse (such a feat was by no means easy for most).
Advanced Jedi Padawan
Battle meditation was a manifestation of the Force which instilled in the meditator's allies a greater morale in battle and reduced the enemy's will to fight. Using the Force, one could coordinate entire fleets of ships, allowing them to perform at maximum efficiency, acting as one to counter every enemy move quickly and effectively.
Using the Force power Breath Control, a Jedi could literally numb the body's instinct to shut itself down after long periods without oxygen, allowing the user to be able to go without breathing for hours, even days. This was very effective in situations where the air was very thin, underwater, or in any environment with toxic fumes.
Comprehend Speech is a Force ability that enables a Jedi to understand the spoken language of any sentient he's interacting with, though it does not necessarily allow him to speak it, merely understand the general meaning. It is possibly an extension of the Telepathy power, as Revan was described as "ripping the Rakatan language from their minds," comprehending their tongue only moments after meeting them. Obi-Wan Kenobi also demonstrated this ability on Nelvaan, able to understand and translate the speech of a Nelvaanian shaman Orvos, though some of the nuances of the speech evaded him. Use of the ability is aided if the sentient itself is Force-sensitive to some degree, as demonstrated when Luke Skywalker encountered the Qom Jha on Nirauan, and found he understood their language without making an attempt to interpret it
Force Whirlwind was a more advanced form of Force Push. The Jedi would alter the air currents around an opponent, turning it into a maelstrom. This swirling force would lift an opponent into the air, spin them around, and completely immobilize them. This allowed the Jedi to attack without resistance. One of the most notable uses of this ability was from Jacen Solo when confronting Tsavong Lah on Duro. Jedi Master Streen and Teneniel Djo demonstrated a natural talent for this ability, as well as Plo Koon, who further modified it with his knowledge.
Precognition was a universal Force power.
The ability of foresight was perhaps universal to the Jedi or Force sensitive and was manifested in the form of Force Visions of future events, or helped the Jedi predict his opponent's movements. Carnor Jax trained in the art.
Tapas was a Force power that allowed its user to draw on the power of the force to remain warm in a cold environment.
Battlemind was a Force power wherein one's morale and fighting spirit was augmented through sheer focus. Mace Windu called upon this technique in addition to more dark side-related abilities to exercise Vaapad (see lightsaber combat).
Battle Precognition was a Force power which allowed one to sense the flows of the Force and anticipate an opponents moves, increasing reaction time in combat.
Combustion was the Force ability that allowed users to make an object explode by sheer force of will. It was rarely used on a person, and the effects on inanimate objects and persons was devastating. Depending on the size, density and vulnerability of the object in question, combustion would become harder or easier to use successfully. It is disputed whether combustion could be prevented and stopped if another force user concentrated on an object to keep it from exploding. This may have cancelled it out, or it may have done nothing. Yarael Poof was known to use this power.
Force Absorb or Force Absorption was a Force ability, that enabled the user to absorb energy, usually harmful, and use it to strengthen their connection to the Force.
Force Stun was a light side power that could temporarily deaden the senses and perceptions of a targeted enemy. It was often used when a Jedi faced a large number of opponents or if they wished to disable an enemy long enough to flee from or apprehend them. To use the power, the Jedi would use the Force to induce them into a catatonic state. Beings or creatures with a high degree of willpower could resist the effects of this power. In addition, it was ineffective against droids and other inorganic beings
Hibernation tance, Jedi hibernation, Force trance, or Recovery trance was a Control-based ability of a Force-user to go into a very deep hibernation state. This slowed down the user's metabolism and breathing to a standstill, causing the individual to only use one tenth of the air of a normal individual. A fully trained Force-user could stay in this state for up to one week in a dry climate or one month in a wet climate before dying from lack of water.
Force Persuasion was a Force power, possibly a lesser "rank" of the mind trick. It is not clear if the name was just an alternative name for the mind trick, or described a variant of that power.
Jedi Knight
Art of the Small was a radical Force technique. By narrowing their focus, a Force user could essentially shrink their presence in the Force to a microscopic size.
Force Bellow was a power in which the user would amplify their voice using the Force.
Force Body was a universal force technique that allowed the user to use the force with their own life energy along with force energy. Higher levels of this power allowed for more efficient use of life and Force energy.
Force Comprehension was the ability to absorb and interpret great quantities of information rapidly by speeding up the user's neural processes.
Force Meld, otherwise known as Jedi meld or Battle meld, was a technique where a number of Force users joined their minds together through the Force, drawing strength from each other. A refinement of battle meditation, it was known to the ancient Jedi, though dangerous. While Battle meditation could influence both the Force-sensitives and the insensitives of both sides, Force Meld concentrates on coordinating and improving the Force-sensitives of the user's side.
Force Suppression was a Force technique used to attack the will of the target, canceling all first and second tier Force powers. This would individually affect each active Force power. This technique took a great deal of focus to accomplish.
Force Throw was a telekinetic ability of the Force, perhaps related to Force Push. It caused objects to be hurled towards a target at an astounding velocity.
Force Wave was one of the most powerful forms of Force Push. It was essentially a wave of pure Force-energy that pulsed out from the Force-user that utilized it, which knocked back anything within the power's blast radius.
Force Weapon was a Force ability that allowed the user to imbue an unpowered weapon with the Force for a brief period of time. By channeling energy into the weapon, it allowed the wielder to strike and do more damage than the weapon's simple appearance would suggest. As a useful side effect, a Force-imbued weapon could be used to block lightsabers without damaging the weapon.
Psychometry or telemetry was a Force power that was a mental technique of picking up impressions and traces of information about the object touched and the events that have surrounded it. This power allowed the user to view events as if they were there, including the sights, sounds, and feelings, both emotional and physical, that the wielder of the object experienced. This power was easier to use on personal objects that were used frequently. Objects that were used once or by several people often made the use of this power difficult, though it was still possible.
Alter Environment was a Force power that involved various techniques that allowed the user to manipulate nature, enabling the creation of such phenomena as Force whirlwinds or fog over limited areas that can be used to attack or to shield the user from opponents. Plo Koon further modified this ability with his considerable knowledge of physics.
Force Blinding was a light side Force power. Upon use, what appears as a blinding flash of energy emanated from a user's hand, overloading the target's vision and causing temporary blindness. A powerful tool of the light side, a Jedi could obfuscate an opponent's sight, making it difficult for the adversary to spot and attack the Jedi (or anyone else, for that matter).
Force Enlightenment was a light side Force power. The most well-known Jedi who used this power frequently was the Jedi Exile, who learned it after a significant conversation with Jedi Masters Vrook Lamar, Kavar, and Zez-Kai Ell.
When activated, this power took the defensive Force powers a Jedi was most skilled in, pushing them to the highest degree that the Jedi had previously mastered during his or her routine training. The affected powers that the Jedi Exile used to enlight were Force Speed, Force Defend (Force Armor or Force Shield), and Force Valor. The end result was an "enlightened" Jedi, having unlocked and harnessed fully the light side of the Force.
Force Orb was a Force power which served as an attack. Under normal circumstances, it only worked underwater.
Force projection was a mysterious Jedi ability, possibly a variation of Force Illusion. It was a technique with which a Jedi created an inanimate apparition similar to himself, used to distract, confuse or lure enemies.
Force Defend Reduced damage taken by Force powers. Force Armor was a light side Force ability. The user focused their will into creating a defensive aura that surrounded them. It protected them from Force powers, lessening their effects or stopping them all together. It was often used in combat against offensive Force powers, and, to a greater degree, dark side Force powers.
Protection Bubble was a Force power, probably related to Force Protection. With this Force power, the user could create a defensive sphere around their body. It is described as a shimmering blue globe of energy. It could protect the user from a wide range of attacks, deflect laser blasts, and even inflict certain amounts of damage upon contact with the enemy. Protection bubbles can also be used offensively. Should the user surround the attacker in a Protection bubble, it is possible the attacker will become a victim of their own attack, having been trapped within its destructive radius.
Force Stasis was a more potent version of the light side power of Force Stun. The Jedi would use the Force to deaden the senses of an enemy, inducing a near-catatonic state and in effect freezing that person or being in place. This power was very useful when the Force-user was stuck in tight spots against a superior number of foes. Characters needed to have learned Force Stun before they could master this power. A further improvement was called Force Stasis Field.
Force Valor was a light side Force power that increased the resolve, accuracy, and speed of one's self and one's allies. Tapping into the Force, a Jedi could increase the rate at which one's capacities functioned, allowing the body to move more quickly, strike more powerfully, and fight with improved accuracy. The more wise, charismatic, and skilled the caster was, the more profound the effects of Force Valor were.
The mind trick, also called voice manipulation, was a Force technique employed by Jedi to influence the thoughts of others (and worked especially well on the weak-minded). In particular, it was often invoked to coerce the target of this power into agreement by suggestion, to cause one to reveal information, or to appeal to a sensory impression for distraction (e.g., to imitate the sound of footsteps emanating from a corridor for sneaking past a guard). This tactic allowed its practitioners to resolve matters in a non-violent way
Malacia was a Jedi technique that used the Force to induce a powerful dizziness and nausea in enemies. It was completely incapacitating, but caused no damage to the body, and so was not considered a dark side power. An attack with Malacia by a Jedi Master was rarely blocked.
Ray was a Force technique used by Jedi skilled in energy manipulation. With this power, a Jedi could turn small amounts of nearby matter into energy that could be controlled. With this energy, a Jedi could block attacks from blaster bolts.
Jedi Master
Force Confusion was a Force Power that temporarily confused an opponent, getting them to fight for the person who used it. It was an advanced form of Mind Trick. It was a useful ability, especially when outnumbered. Some Sith Lords from ancient times had mastered this ability to such an extent that they could force entire armies to fight for them. The power could also be used to cause enemies to flee with fear.
Force Deflection was a Force power used by Jedi and Sith who were without a lightsaber, or chose not to carry one. It is unknown exactly if the Jedi and Sith merely created a wall using the Force to deflect blaster bolts and Force Powers, or if they actually deflected them back with their hand. It took much skill in the Force to use this, however, and most Jedi used their lightsabers instead to deflect incoming attacks.
Force Illusion was a Force ability, a subset of the various mind trick powers. The user projected an image into the minds of beings within range, of anything from a pillar of fire to a horde of snarling monsters to a fleet of warships, depending on the range. The user could "see" the illusion as well, though it would be only partially there, semi-transparent like a hologram.
Force Breach was a Force power that interrupted all other powers in use by the target at the time. It was a technique employed when a foe was preparing for a Force-based attack by disrupting their concentration and scrambling their focus. Force Breach was not a widely known Force power; it was most often used by some of the more powerful Jedi and Sith in ancient times. Breach was a stronger form of the power Force Suppression.
Force visions were rare?but powerful?aspects of the Force, and considered the cornerstone of the Unifying Force.
Force Repulse was an extremely powerful telekinetic Force power, similar in function to Force Push, and perhaps even more Force Blow, but on a far larger scale, akin to that of Force Wave. The user created sharp, visible kinetic ripples in space, which expanded outward rapidly, flinging nearby objects away at high velocity. The power only affected objects a certain distance away from the user, and therefore any allies could avoid its effects by moving closer to the user.
Transfer essence, or transfer life, was a radical dark side Force power used to transfer a person's consciousness into another body, or in some cases an inanimate object.
Electric Judgment was a Force technique used by Jedi such as Plo Koon,[1] and most likely Luke Skywalker.
It showed up as yellow[1] or green energy[2] instead of blue or white, but otherwise it was very similar in both appearance and usage to the dark side power Force lightning. This power was both uncommon and controversial among the Jedi because of its similarity to the dark side technique and its association with anger and aggression.
Force Light was the immense Force power used to purge, contain, or dissipate a dark side manifestation or nexus point, be it in a place, spirit, or even a person. The dark energies can then be either contained or trapped within a place, object, or even a person, though sometimes to detrimental effect.
Force protection was a light side Force power. This ability would make the bearer invulnerable to a wide range of attacks until it wore off, either through time, or if the user was fatigued. Protection could also wear off quicker than normal, depending on the intensity and number of attacks at once, since the aura itself could only withstand so much.
The Force power of Stasis Field was the highest level of the light side power known as Force Stun. Often learned and practiced by higher-level Jedi Knights and Masters, this power allowed the Force-user to put multiple enemies into brief, non-harmful catatonic states at one time, allowing for quick escapes or to avoid protracted confrontations against seemingly overwhelming numbers. This power could also be used to avoid combat entirely, if the wielder wished to apprehend or sneak by opponents put into stasis.
Morichro suspended biological functions, including breathing and heart rate. A trained Morichro user could turn the technique upon himself, surviving without food, water, or even air for periods of over a year at a time, though it would not protect against vacuum. It could also be turned on others, making it a potentially fatal weapon. Before approximately 5,000 BBY, use and training in Morichro was left unchecked, but the Council, wary of its potential for abuse, banned its teachings to all but a select few by 1,000 BBY.
Grand Master
Force Resuscitation was an extremely rare Force power that allowed the user to bring others back to life from the brink of death[1] with the power of the dark side of the Force. The only confirmed person to have ever used this skill was Cade Skywalker, who used it to resurrect Wolf Sazen and Marasiah Fel, and prevent the coral seed deaths of Deliah Blue and Jariah Syn. Cade also learned to use this power to kill, and used it on Darth Talon when she attacked him for being impudent to Darth Krayt. At Krayt's request, he later healed the damage he caused to Talon.
Dark powers
Force Grip/Force Choke - Often believed to be an enhanced combination of two neutral Force-powers: Force Pull and Force Push, Force Grip (as shown by Darth Vader in A New Hope) can be used to grip a target's neck (and/or constrict their trachea or other internal organs.) Stronger users can lift the target off their feet, choking them until they suffocate, optionally slamming the target into a wall or sending them flying over a precipice. While the attacker can quite simply break the target's neck, death by strangulation appears to be favored by the Sith
Crush - This deadly Force ability lifts the opponent, whose body literally implodes as it is crushed inward by this power.
Force Lightning - This power was first portrayed by Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi. Force lightning is a purely energy-based specialty attack of the Sith. Force energy, in the form of lightning bolts exits the Force-user's body through their fingertips. The greater the user's aptitude, the more power the lightning bolts possess and the more they fork, allowing the possibility of striking multiple foes at once
Chain Lightning - This variant of Force lightning is different in that now the target is one and there is a chance that the lightning will move to another person.
Rage - For a short time, this power augments the speed, strength and fierceness of the caster, at the expense of health and defense. A noted ability of Sith Marauders, this power may have been used by Luke to defeat Darth Vader in The Return of the Jedi
Insanity - This causes the targets to suffer from extreme doubt and fear, such that they flee from the user or become catatonic and cower on the ground.
Force Throw - Causes objects to be hurled towards a target.
Drain - Same as Heal, except that the user drains the target's Force reserve and/or health to fuel the regenerative process, or to replenish their own strength in the Force. Greater aptitude allows exceptional execution speed and the ability to drain multiple target at once.
Plague - This malicious power causes the target to suffer as though afflicted with a terrible poison.
Destruction - Certain gifted Sith warriors are able to perform devastating explosive attacks upon their enemies. This ability, fueled by the Sith's hatred, can create a powerful energy field and throw it at any direction.
Deadly Sight - This power of the Dark Side is capable of allowing Sith Lords to inflict damage upon enemies merely with their sight. With this power, the user can damage entire groups within the field of vision
Force Storm - Palpatine was able to generate and control, to a degree, self-sustaining storms of warped spacetime of a limited duration. These storms could range from the size of a small starship to huge maws capable of obliterating entire starfleets.
Mind Control - A more advanced, and more malicious, form of "Persuasion/Suggestion", allowing one to enter another's mind and control brain activity.
Crush Opposition - Introduced in Knights of the Old Republic II, this power is the direct opposite of the Light Side ability Inspire Followers, directly sapping the opposition of its strength and will.
Thought bomb - Among the most destructive Force powers ever unleashed, the Thought Bomb was only known to be activated by Lord Kaan and members of the Brotherhood of Darkness during the Battle of Ruusan. The Thought Bomb exterminates all life within a large radius (known to be potentially as large
Force Scream - If a Dark Jedi is being beaten and frustrated by his foe, he may let out an enraged scream, amplified through the Force, that triggers shock waves that ripple through the Force, devastating both the Dark Jedi and those who are unfortunate enough to be in close proximity.
Manipulation of Life (disputed) - According to Darth Sidious in Episode III, Darth Plagueis the Wise had "such a mastery of the Force he could create life itself." He could also use this power to sustain his own biological life from the ravages of aging
