To open or not to open
Ok, so this is my first attempt at an actuall "blog".
I have been a collector for many years. When I was a boy, of course EVERYTHING got opened and played with. Growing up, for a while I had to live through the Star Wars dry up. No new toys, figures, anything really. Then all of that started to change back when I was a freshmen in high school. Timmothy Zahn published the first book of his Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy. The Star Wars universe was all abuzz, and shortly after Kenner announced the greatest thing in the WORLD. NEW Star Wars figures. ALL NEW, not re-issues, not re-molds. NEW.
At this point I had been working for a few years so I had my own money. I didn't have to rely on parents telling me "no". So when the new figs hit the shelves, I was ready. I started to buy TWO of almost everything. One to play with, and one to save. This has gone on pretty much since then. Buying two when I can, but at least trying to get one of the really cool new figs when they come out. Living in New England means one thing for toy collectors. We are dead last on the distrabution list for new waves of EVERYTHING! So it's hard to find a good score. I guess what I am saying in this long winded babble is that at 31 years old, maybe I really need to prioritize and stop buying two of everything. Steve Sansweet said it best. For every 100 figures, only a couple will ever be worth more then what you paid for them. So while I do not plan on stoping all together, maybe it is time to just settle for one of each, and just open it for what I collect for. The fun and enjoyment. Unless it happens to be a McQuarrie concept. Those are just worthy of getting two! So give me your thoughts and let me know how my first blog went. Thanks guys! Good luck, happy hunting and may the collecting force be with you!
