The story of Ben Keto: Changes
A/N: Please read previous chapters if you have yet to, here is chapter 4....
Ben was sleeping peacefully within the room at the Enclave. Not a sound could be heard within the entire complex, but Ben did not hear something, but could sense it. The Force was warning him, a ripple of danger. He sat bolt upright in the bed, and jumped out of it. The warning was growing stronger, he knew didn?t have much time. He threw on his Jedi cloak over the tunic and pants he wore, and grabbed his lightsaber off the nightstand before quietly slipping out of the room. The first person he thought to warn, for a reason he didn?t understand, was Alice. He didn't have the time to figure out why, so he went to the room next to his, Alice's. He stood there for a moment, then instead of knocking, which he knew would not work, he had another idea. He concentrated, and with all his might, sent a telepathic message through the Force to her:
"Alice, danger is coming! Get up now!" He hoped it worked, and just seconds later, he heard movement behind the door. He smiled, it had worked. Just a few more moments later, Alice appeared at the door, smiling, but much concern also on her face. "Ben, what is it?" She asked.
"Well, I don?t quite...uhh, know. The Force was rippling with danger, and still is, can't you sense it?"
She fell silent for a moment. "Yes, I can... I have one question though; why did you think to warn me first?"
Ben shifted nervously, and then said quietly, "I also don't know that, something just made me come here first." He smiled a little.
She smiled back. "Thanks for that then. Now, if this is so dangerous, don't you think we should be getting out of here?"
At that moment, a wave of danger swept through the Force, startling the two slightly. Ben nodded, "Yeah, I think we should run!" He said, as he grasped her hand almost instinctively, and they both hurtled away from their rooms. Moments later, an explosion rocked the place where they had just been standing, the shock wave from the blast sending both sprawling. Ben and Alice hit the ground hard, and Ben felt the air rush from his lungs as he made contact. He heard a soft grunt from Alice, as she landed beside him. As he regained his bearings, he lifted up his head, to see that he was still grasping Alice?s hand loosely. His first thought was to let go, but another thought came to him, he liked how it felt holding her hand, it was welcoming. He yet again pushed that thought away, curious at how these things continued coming to him. As he tried to slip his hand away, Alice's head shot up, smirking at him. "What do you think you're doing?"
Ben's eyes widened, and he stayed silent, unmoving.
"Not gonna help me up?" Alice said with a chuckle.
Ben let out a low chuckle. "Of course I will, don't scare me like that," he said. He tightened his grip on her hand a bit, stood, and pulled her to feet. "Better?"
She smiled. "Yes, better."
As she spoke the last word, footsteps were heard coming from a hallway to the left. Two men appeared, dressed in the cloaks typical of all Jedi at the Enclave. One was tall, the other shorter, and they both were looking at Ben and Alice with 'What just happened here' look. Ben and Alice cast a quick glance at each other, then the two men, who they now recognized as Masters. Ben opened his mouth to explain, but before a sound came from his mouth, Alice began speaking rapidly.
"Well, uh, hi. So, Ben and I were both asleep in our rooms, when Ben woke up, sensing something in the Force. A warning for danger, right Ben?" Before Ben could respond, she continued, ?He got up, and came to my door to warn me, but actually sent me a me a message through the Force. I got up, we ran, and the explosion happened, and here we are..." She finished, letting out a sigh. All three pairs of eyes were fixated on Alice, when the taller Master spoke.
"That explains the noise that shook this place, but the thing I don?t understand, is how the two of you could feel this disturbance, but no one else," He shook his head, looking almost amused.
"I don?t understand it either," Ben said, his tone sounding curious.
"Neither do I," Alice said.
"It appears none of us do," the shorter Master said almost blankly.
The taller Master appeared to be thinking for a long minute, then spoke.
"I think we should convene with the Council here, on the matter of these two Padawans," He said, looking towards the shorter Master.
The other Master gave a nod, and said, turning to Ben and Alice, "We will discuss this matter tomorrow morning with the Council, then we will summon you both to meet with us."
Ben and Alice both nodded, almost simultaneously, and bowed.
"Now, we have some extra rooms here, just down that hall," the tall Master said, pointing them towards a corridor. "Get some sleep, we want you ready for tomorrow." He said with a nod, as he and the shorter Master turned and walked back from where they had come. Ben and Alice nodded once more, standing still for a few moments.
"Oh boy, what have we gotten ourselves into now?" Ben said, looking concerned, but chuckling a little.
"I have no idea, but it seems someone wants us dead, and that's never good," Alice responded. "Now let?s try to salvage some sleep, and prepare for tomorrow."
"You're right, let's go," Ben said, and began walking down the corridor the Masters had indicated. Alice fell into stride beside him without a sound.
"Just stay strong, Ben," She whispered to him. "We'll make it through all this, friends, right?"
"Right," He responded. "we'll make it through, friends, no matter what."
With that, the both of them disappeared into their temporary rooms for the remainder of the night.
The dark silhouetted figure stood near his fighter yet again, muttering quietly to himself.
"Jedi and their Force senses, the only thing that spared them. Soon, those two will join us, or die. They have much potential that can be useful to us, and much to exploit as well..." Was the last that was said that night, and all was quiet. But soon, quiet, and peace, would no longer exist in the lives of Ben and Alice...for they have an unknown enemy after them, and will face it soon...
