The story of Ben Keto: Decisions (Chapter 6)
A/N: Chapter 6, finally! Heh, longest one yet...feedback, etc, you know. ;)
After lying still for another hour, still trying to figure out why the dark vision had come to him. Ben shook his head, completely clueless. He sighed and got out of bed, finding a clean set of robes and changing into them, putting on his belt, and clipping on his lightsaber. He walked quietly out of his room, noticing the Enclave already bustling, students talking amongst themselves about their training, Knights and Masters walking about, looking to Ben like they were observers. He still had about an hour before the meeting with the Council, so he decides to head over to the Dining Hall and grab something to eat. Finally used to getting around the Enclave, he began to walk, when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around, to see Alice standing there, smiling brightly at him. "Good morning, Ben. How are you?"
He smiled back to her, happy to have her around, but feeling apprehensive about the Council meeting, and the strange vision. "Good morning to you as well, I'm...I'm well."
Her look changed to one of concern. "Are you sure? You don't sound well..."
Ben waved his hand dismissively. "Yes, I'm sure. We have more important things to worry about, now let's go eat." With that, he turned and began walking towards the Dining hall again.
Alice shook her head, muttering under her breath as she followed him. "This isn't the last you'll hear from me on this, Ben."
Ben continued walking, not hearing her last comment. He entered the Dining hall, sitting down and placing his order to a serving droid. After doing the same, Alice sat down next to him. She wanted to ask him what was going on, but she knew now was not the time.
"What do you think will happen in the Council meeting?" She asked him, just trying to make conversation.
"I really have no idea, we'll see once we're there," He responded blankly, staring out one of the windows.
Alice let out a sigh, sounding almost defeated. Why wouldn't he talk to her? She didn't know, but she was most certainly going to find out. "You're right." The droid returned with both of their trays, and the two Padawans began to eat in silence. Once they had finished eating and cleaned up, they both stood and walked out of the Dining Hall. Ben glanced at his chrono.
"Looks like we have about 10 minutes, probably should get going." Not waiting for a response, Ben began to walk in the direction of the Council Chambers. Seeing nothing to say, Alice just nodded her head and walked beside him. As they were walking, a few other apprentices, and even Knights, gave them strange looks as they passed. Not looking in any direction but straight ahead, Ben did not notice. Alice cast a curious glance to some of them, but said nothing. She suddenly felt like an outsider. Her only current friend at the Enclave wouldn't even talk to her, and now other Jedi were giving her strange looks. With that thought, she looked up, finding Ben and herself standing in front of the doors to the Council Chambers. "So, this is it, huh?" She said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Yeah, I guess so," Ben said, shrugging. He pushed open the door, stepping through, Alice right behind him. The two walked to the center of the room, a wide room, but still relatively small. 7 of the Enclave?s most wise, most respected Masters sat in chairs arranged in a semi-circle. The first to speak was a Mirialan, from his seat in the center of the small circle of seats. Noticing the tattoos on his face, Ben had a brief memory flash through his head, of Master Luminara, and her former Padawan Barriss, both Mirialans. He wondered if they too had been victims of what was now known as Order 66. "As you know, we have called this meeting of the Council to discuss the matter of these two Padawans," He indicated Ben and Alice with a wave of his hand, and continued, "Ben Keto and Alice Senttin. Because of the bombing that occurred near their quarters here, and their recent arrival, something seems out of place...I would first like to hear what they have to say on this."
Ben took a step forward, his blue eyes hardened with resolve. "Masters, before I begin, I do have one question. Are you all aware of the events of recently on Coruscant, and even throughout the Galaxy? Our numbers have been decimated, clone troopers turning on their own Jedi Generals." A few looked completely shocked; the rest looked as if they had known all along, their faces blank. "It would appear we all know now," a human Master sitting on one end of the semi-circle of chairs said. The rest remained silent. Ben spoke again. "My own sister, Serra Keto was killed among many. By the one the entire had heard or known of as the Chosen One. He marched on the Temple with a legion of troops, they slaughtered anything and everything in their path. I barely escaped with my own life...and the next morning, Alice found me asleep in the Senate District--that was as far as I made it. Then, we made our escape..." He stopped abruptly, growing silent. The Mirialan Master stared at him. "Have you more to say of this, Padawan?" Ben shook his head slowly. "No, Master."
"Now, we have one last matter to discuss. The bombing that took place earlier this morning. I have sensed a dark taint here, I suspect it is a sentinent. Maybe an Assassin, but I do not know. For some reason, I believe this new Empire, or more likely, this one person wants you two dead, or alive." Alice shuddered at the very thought. Someone wanting her dead? What could be worse than that? Ben however, stood stone still in his place, his blue eyes still showing the hardened look about them. "What would be our best course of action then?" Ben said in a surprisingly calm voice, for what had just been revealed to him. "I believe we should investigate this matter, and prepare for an attack that seems almost imminent by this new Empire," A human Master said. The Mirialan spoke up again. "But who should investigate this? A Master, A couple Knights? Should these two be involved?"
"I believe a Knight with a connection to these two should investigate this, along with the Padawans. Kari Cerulian." A male Twi'lek Master said. "With her ties to these two," he continued, "and her reputation as a respected Jedi, she would be fitting for this." Others nodded. All nods of agreement, before the Mirialan spoke again. "This is how we will proceed; Kari Cerulian and the two Padawans shall investigate the matter of the bombing, while the rest of the Jedi will prepare to evacuate. This Empire will not likely show us mercy, we must move quickly." More nods came, but no words were spoken. Glancing around the Chamber, the Mirialan knew no one would speak, so said at last, "This meeting is done, Padawans, find Knight Cerulian and inform her of your mission. Also spread the word of our evacuation around the Enclave, every Jedi here must be aware."
"Of course," Ben and Alice said at the exact same time. They bowed, the turned and briskly left the Chambers, off to find Kari. Alice looked at Ben as they were walking. "What was up in there? You looked so stony...and unreadable. And I know there is something you're not telling me." Ben shook his head and sighed. "I was trying to look determined for the Council, and I am. Our mission is important. You're right, I'm not telling you something, but you're not my sis--he caught himself before he finished the word--"never mind." He closed his mouth and looked away from her, concentrating on informing the other Jedi of the recent news. She sighed quietly, still trying to hold onto the hope he would tell her what was bothering him. He had to, if they were any kind of friends...Her thought trailed off, and she went about spreading the news as well, her mind on many things, most of all of them...Ben.
