Vanai was a harsh planet that spends most of the day in darkness and because of this Riddians had developed a keen eye sight to see in almost pitch black conditions. The Jedi discovered Vanai by accident and until that time the Riddians had remained unknown to the rest of the galaxy. Alyks who was a five year old boy at the time was among the first Riddian to have contact with the Jedi. The Jedi befriended the Riddians and quickly developed good relations with them. Alyks was learned to be special among his people in that he seemed to have the rare ability of being force sensitive. His parents agreed to allow Alyks to be taken by the Jedi and trained in the ways of the force in return for all that the Jedi had done for them.
Alyks quickly learned the ways of the Jedi, but the harsh conditions of his home planet were something that helped and pushed Alyks to excel. Even though he left his planet at age five, he had already learned to develop his survival and fighting skills. He had already learned to use various blades so becoming a Jedi would teach him how to use a lightsaber as well.
Alyks would go on to not only be a good fighter but a good teacher as well. His unique skills were something that he would try and teach others within the Jedi Order. His example was not lost on others and he was one that was sought out for advice. Even still at a young age, Alyks has proven to be a shining example of a Jedi that many of come to admire.

Riddian was a species that was found on the planet Vanai. They are near human with the difference to humans being: stronger, faster, tougher, more agile, more resistant to damage and injury, possess acute senses, immense stamina, and recover quicker than most humans from injuries; on occasion dislocating limbs for brief moments with only slight signs of discomfort. Abilities at hand-to-hand combat are particularly formidable. Has been shown to have a certain deductive streak. Has also been described as having 'a knack for escape'. Superlative night vision, however this makes them sensitive to light.
